I'll certainly check that but don't you think I would notice water missing if it were coolant? I recently changed all the hoses and had the radiator repaired because it had fan damage done to it in the past. I would think when that happened the water pump was replaced or rebuilt. Thanks for the idea...

Mystery fluid
I was finishing up some service work on my little 450c this weekend and I noticed a fluid leaking from near the front of the head. Basically behind the bracket that holds the radiator top mount and water pump area.I wiped it off and it smelled like diesel fuel. I got to looking close and noticed I h...

I managed to get all 8 of the cross member to track frame bolts loose with a little heat and an impact. The inner bolts are all intact and I just left them alone at this point. That said the frame is worn quite a bit. For right now I've put over sized 3/4" flat washers with the 5/8" regular washer t...

Well that is not what I wanted to hear.. I know the inner cross member bolts are still in the machine and I think all of the bolts are seized up. I tried to break the outer bolts loose with a break over bar and could not. I guess I'll try and lift up the cross member to pull the gap back and see if ...

450c service III
I'm still working on service on my little 450c, I finally got the fill plug out of the right final drive,. Now I have them full of diesel waiting till I can drive a bit to flush them out. I was hoping I could do that today but the radiator is going to need to have a couple of tubes fixed. Couple of ...

My 450c is just like what you are describing. I wondered if having the larger pipe as part of the hood over the smaller pipe of the muffler would help prevent water from running down the stack into the top of the motor. Any rain running down the walls of the stack would miss the muffler and therefor...

When I was younger and dumber I had a bumper sticker that said "Horn broken watch for finger"..... I cannot really be helpful to the thread, my 450c is missing it's horn as well. I think there is a button for it though. When I worked at the quarry we always had the horns working to tell the driver t...

I can't speak to a 450C,but i believe your engine is the same (minus turbo) as my 310B backhoe. On its block heater it connects through 2 90 degree elbows that go where the block drain would be and another where a plug would be above that. Works like a charm on the 310, left in for an hour it'll st...

That is what I'm thinking too. I think I will block those lines off with pipe plugs if I can if not I'll keep short pieces of hoses with bolts for now. My block heater actually still seems to work.....I think I'm almost good to go with the coolant side of service issues. Those coolant lines to the o...

I think the pro's have covered most of the big issues but I'd like throw my 2 cents in. I was looking for a machine for the same type of work and I think it's very important to either get a machine with ROPS or be prepared to buy/build it. IMHO clearing trees without ROPS is just asking for a headac...

coolant hoses and block heater
So I spent the day continuing to service work and repair issues on my little 450c. I'm a little confused by some of the coolant hoses. I have what appears to be a factory block heater correct u bolt mount and shape, however it connects to the block thru a couple of very small elbows. I think they ar...

Just a quick note to be added to thread for if someone searches and finds this in the future. You also have to remove the bolts from the skid plate to the nose to get it to either tilt or remove. I removed mine last night with my 1900 ford tractor with a FEL. Came off pretty easy once I got those bo...
