Problem was the machine actually has a reverser (didn't realize external linkage and handle is missing and it jumped into neutral position. It was unhooked because it must have broken at one time and some gears are missing so only has forward not reverse with reverser. I am looking for parts if I ca...

420 Reverser Parts Needed

I have a 420, 4 spd, 5 roller, serial number 112,XXX, that I am looking for reverser parts for. I would be interested in the complete housing, gears, bearings, seals etc. depending on cost and availability but need at a minimum the two angled gears that fit into the trans. Case and reverser housing....

Not sure what it is worth? It has a pretty tight undercarriage and strong running motor. It has a canopy and winch on the back (not original, came from something else). I can get some pics if interested. My number is 518-872-1815

I took the cover off the top of the transmission and started it up. Nothing is turning in the transmission regardless of clutch position. I also tried the PTO and that does not work either. What would the next step be? How would I diagnose this further? Is there a cover I can pull of to see if there...

That is what has me confused. I have been using the dozer regularly right along all summer. It has been working great and I have used it a lot and pushed some heavy material to the point where it would either be spinning or I could stall the motor. It was working great, made no noise ever. When this...

Any Ideas? 420 Will Not Move….

I just changed the fluids in my 420 and was driving it up to put it in the building for the winter and it stopped moving. It didn’t make any type of noise or anything it just acted like it popped out of gear or something. It free wheels fine and doesn’t make any type of noise in any gear or with the...

Any interest in 420 in New York?

1957 JD 420 Crawler -outside blade with manual angle -winch (not factory) -canopy -undercarriage pretty tight (redone in 1996 according to receipts) -motor runs strong, uses no oil (not sure if/when last rebuilt) -solid machine, pretty tight, blade could use some new pins, tightening up -steers good...

I looked into the 12 volt conversion, the coil on the machine has 12V stamped on it but it also looks like there is a resistor in the line. It is a square piece with two small wires going to it. I took the govenor apart and it looked fine put it all back together and have used it 2 hours since and i...

Thanks for the reply Lavoy. Yes the dozer has been converted to 12 volts, what do I need to check for and where can I get the correct parts? Approx. price? Also, how hard is it to pull the governor apart? I haven't looked at it at all? Is it easy to get too, pull apart outside or should I get it ins...

420 Help?

I just got my 420 and have used it for a couple of hours, I would say the undercarriage is in excellent shape and is supposedly almost new everything. So far I have had the following problems: 1. Dozer would quit when hot, filed the points and this seemed to solve the problem. 2. Starter locked and ...

Just Bought A 420 Dozer

I just bought a 420 dozer online. I haven't got it yet but it is supposedly in really good shape and has new sprockets, tracks, idlers, etc. It also has a winch and canopy and the outside blade. I paid $3700 for it is that a decent deal? I am new to crawlers I want to check it over before I use it. ...

Thanks for the info. Thats what I was afraid of that if I ran it like that for awhile it would wear out the rest of the undercarriage. The only thing is the sprockets aren't really worn so I didn't know why they weren't worn with the condition of the tracks. Maybe he found a deal on some and replace...
