Holes
I want to elongate holes thru 1/4" thick steel to mount a front loader. There are round holes existing but, won't line up so, I need to elongate to get bolts to thread in as they should. The holes are 5/8" diameter and need to be elongated about 1/4". Any suggestions will be appreciated. gregjo1948

Re: John Deere 440 icd advice
At $800.00, your not getting hurt. You have plenty of room to buy parts to get it running and digging. The labor to fix it is where you might get burned. If you job it out you might get a lot of money in it that you'll never recover. If you do your own wrenching; what's your time worth? I'm always b...

Re: 61 1010 seized gas engine
Sounds to me that, someone is going to have to pull the engine to free it up. It's up to you to determine how far you go to get it "just running" or to do a good rebuild on the engine while it's out.

Sounds like a bad coil to me. Just because you installed a new one, doesn't mean it was a good one. Was it made in China?

Re: thermostat 40C
Thanks for your reply Stan. So until I work the devil out of this little guy, I can't expect to see any temp rise on my gauge?

thermostat 40C
I played with my 40C a little and it doesn't warm up much. I installed a new temp gauge but I don't know where the thermostat is located. thanks, gregjo1948

Re: 420c float
Thanks guys. I'll see if I can "float" working. I haven't had a 2 cylinder JD in a lot of years and had forgotten how cute they are. I was surprised to see it has bottom 5 rollers.

Re: 420c float
Good morning, If it is an original valve (two spools controlled by one lever), they often had float by releasing the latch on the side of the lever and pushing the lever forward as it would be for power down. That way both spools move so they are open to return oil and the blade or remote will floa...

Re: Up date on 1010C diesel
When I had a 1010C, I found a second fuel shut-off valve and they both had to be open to make it run. Almost seems like it was a return line that it was installed into. Maybe if the return line isn't open, the feed line can't flow as it should.

Re: 420c float
Thanks Jim. It appears to have the original control lever but, I'm not sure about the valve body. Never posted pics--don't know how. Not too clever with a computer.(wrong generation) I don't have the blade attached yet. I need to get a pivot pin and I'm not sure whether to use soft steel or hardened...

420c float
Wondered if a 420C dozer come with a float position on the blade control valve. This one I just acquired doesn't have a float position.

I don't see any pictures. What model machine do you have? If it's a 420, I think it would be right by the oil filter.

Re: Steering lever broke
Welcome. You could try getting a replacement lever from Lavoy. He operates this site and also sells parts.
It looks like the right track on your loader might be a bit too tight.

Re: 40C fluid level
I have been told that Harley patented the sound/noise their 2 cylinder engines make.Stan Disbrow wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 4:34 amHi,
Nope. Not a Harley.
JD is 2 cyl out of 4 when it comes to the firing. Harley is 2 cyl out of 5. Quite different sounds.

Re: 40C fluid level
Fill is under your right heel, drain in on the opposite side underneath. Yes on positive ground. Lavoy Thanks Lavoy. I found it already. I just got this little guy home and it had a bunch of leaves bunched up around the fill plug. I haven't had a green dozer in years and forgot how simple they are....
