I was asked if this tie down could stretch out over time. After giving it some thought I agreed that with it being 1/4 inch thick and the area around the hole being 3/8 wide, it could very well stretch out. So I decided to re-enforce the area around the hole. Both tie down brackets are removed and t...

I had made up a pair of tie down brackets out of a piece of flat steel with a "U" bolt welded to it. These bolted on the ends of the front crossbar for mounting the tracks. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh182/jdcrawler/my%20crawlers/31.jpg They worked just fine but the chain hook would rub the ...

Time to take the greasy parts to the carwash and clean them off. The tracks are setting on the floor in front of the crawler so they have to be loaded first. I loaded them one at a time on the forklift and took them out to the trailer. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh182/jdcrawler/my%20crawlers...

The front idlers are separated from the side brackets. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh182/jdcrawler/my%20crawlers/93_zps75d7cb92.jpg This is as far down as I'm going to take it for painting. The crawler is off the stands and I set it down on the garage floor. I bolted a piece of wood over the ...

Here is what the new steering clutch pack looks like when it is all assembled. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh182/jdcrawler/my%20crawlers/85_zpsedfa6313.jpg I cut the heads off of two bolts and threaded them into a couple of the mounting holes to help as guide pins to re-assemble the crawler. ...

The new steering clutch friction disc arrived yesterday. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh182/jdcrawler/my%20crawlers/77_zpsb457d867.jpg I can drill out four disc at a time. They are centered on one of the clutch plates and clamped in place. Then one of the mounting holes is drilled thru all the...

I got the hydraulic tank removed out from under the crawler. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh182/jdcrawler/my%20crawlers/74.jpg The tank cleaned up pretty good considering that it was bolted up under a working crawler for the last 34 years. This hydraulic tank was a little bit of a challenge to...

1945 Lindeman restoration-1
Started on taking the crawler apart to get it down to where it can be painted. The hood and gas tank have been removed. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh182/jdcrawler/my%20crawlers/61.jpg As I stated earlier, I didn't take photos of this back when I first built it so this is an excellent time to...

This crawler has a mag ignition so there isn't any electrical current draw when it is running and the ammeter doesn't read any charge unless the battery is low or I turn on the headlights. I decided to remove the ammeter and put in a volt meter instead. http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh182/jdcra...

I have new steering clutch disc ordered so while I'm waiting for them, I decided to make a small modification to the battery box. I should have taken some photos of the box before I took it off the crawler but I didn't think about it in time. The box is mounted on top of the transmission where the h...

what does the spring do? By your right foot. That spring engages the drive clutch drum on the engine. When I first got this crawler running, I felt it was kind of awkward trying to operate the steering clutch and the hand clutch on the engine at the same time so I decided to put a foot operated clu...
