Re: reverser oil flow question
That doesn't sound right. Cooler outlet pressure should be the lubricating pressure to clutches and output shaft and there seems to be either no pressure or resistance to flow. The manual says to control the pressure by the clutch lubricating bypass valve. If you open the cooler outlet fitting (sinc...

Re: reverser oil flow question
One other thing, has the trans oil pickup screen (filter) ever been inspected? Perhaps it is collapsing under vacuum from the pump? Psprague, the screen has been out at least 3 times. There was never any noticeable derbies, other than a few yellow paint flakes. It was removed and cleaned the first ...

Re: 450C Ring and Pinion
Part number AT30888 is the ring and pinion set, with the ring gear rivetted to the included hub.
So you shouldn't need to install rivets.
On the other hand, the repair manual tells how to install the ring gear on the hub and properly smash the rivets.

Re: reverser oil flow question
I've been looking at the supply oil flow diagram of a 'b' HLR and I'm just trying to think out loud (kind of like talking to myself, minus the profanity). Trans pump pulls oil from the pickup and based on the shims in a pressure regulating valve, shoves oil both to the oil filter and cooler, and dir...

Re: reverser oil flow question
Do you think there might be a small crack or hole or un-torqued bolt in something and the change in viscosity of the oil or change in a casting's temp causes it leak internally and it to stop shifting?

Re: Needle valve setting 450 hlr
The b manual says (with a pressure gauge at the test point): When shifting from reverse to high or high to reverse, the oil pressure at the by-pass valve in the accumulator housing should drop from and return to engaging oil pressure in 1.5 seconds average. If deviation from this time is observed, r...

Happy birthday Amos! My eldest daughter's birthday is this sunday. She's getting her first hour of dual instruction for getting a private pilots license.
Sunday is earth day too.

450C HLR diag question
Hi All, I have a 450C with a quirky reverser problem. High and reverse work peachy, but when I engage low directly from neutral, it does not engage. If I shift to high or reverse, let it engage then shift to low, it works. After shifting it does not seem to have any issues with slippage in gear. I d...

Re: 550 radiator and transmission cooler
Oil testing is quite common in aircraft, pilots have this thing about motors and unplanned stoppages. I've tasted used oil before but never by choice so if it were to have the fullness of Rotella but with a bouquet of ethylene glycol, I wouldn't have a clue. I'd be more afraid of the heavy metals th...

Re: 450C final update and valuation
Hi Amos, I'm actually having a dry spell too, I got my dozer put together last spring and then finished up a most of a restoration on a Toyota fj-40 Landcruiser that I've owned forever (37 years and it's now fun to drive again). Its given me time for a few other things, cleaning the tool boxes and s...

Re: 450C final update and valuation
I got mine thru my father's estate and he had got it about 3 or 4 days before he passed (made it to 83 and had a wife younger than me so he had a good life :) ). It ran really well with decent oil pressure but the right clutch/ final drive was bleeding hydraulic oil in a very steady drip. I stripped...
