I think you guys warned me these little crawlers are expensive!!!! The bolt I showed in the picture does act as a thrust bearing for the camshaft. Doesn't seem to be doing anything the thrust plate was still in place. On to the real issues... The head needs exhaust guides, one seat and 2 intake valv...

The head went off for rebuld. For far, I need exhaust valve guides and a couple exhaust valves. I'm planning to pull the engine today. Stripped off the radiator, water pump, and hydraulic pump and found this big bolt on the front cover. Looks like there is a nut welded to the cover which the bolt th...

Thank you so much for the information. I should have time this weekend to pull the block and remove the pistons. I suspect the piston in the cylinder with the deep scoring probably had ring groove issues. But it doesn't look like finding used pistons will be a problem. I'll let you know what I find....

1010 Diesel engine rebuild
I decided to start a new thread to avoid those massively oversized pictures I posted on the earlier posting. Jdemaris, thanks for the tip on 2010 gas being the same deck as the 1010 diesel, I’m still looking. If I do find a good deck should I be sure to get the pistons from the same deck? If I go wi...

I did notice one a few days ago but it was gas. I think the asking price was $600 but the auction ended with no takers. Looks like deere might have the Diesel decks in inventory... $669... the best I could measure the cylinders are around 3.630" standard is 3.625". The scoring is around 3.660 or .03...

I havent pulled the pan but I did drain the oil a few days ago. Its was the same grey crap from bottom to top but I agree it's probably water. Just strange how it hasn't separated. It has been stored with antifreeze since I have owned it so if the block is cracked its was like that before I donated ...

yeah I have been busy with wheeled tractors. Playing with a fairly new to me, JD 720 LP. The pump was rebuilt when I put it back together a year ago. It has probably 1-2 hours on it. I was thinking... If the intake valves are not opening enough to get a full air charge they won't develop full compre...

1010 Dozer - patiently waiting... sitting in the corner
Hello Crawler Crowd! It’s been a while since I posted hear but thought it was time I torn into the engine of my 1010 Diesel. A couple years ago you all helped me get my derelict 1010D running. I had fuel issues but once I got it running it smoked horribly; blue and white and the oil pressure was run...

1010 Engine Block / my current status
The last time I posted about my late model 1010 dozer (diesel) I got it running by removing the "J" hook from the pump fuel return fitting. It was causing too much back pressure on the pump. I soon learned the fuel tank needed to be cleaned. Not rusty at all but lots of solidified gunk. The next pro...

Tiger, Hey! I for one appreciate your insight and help finding the correct threads! The idea of switching from diesel to gas is just because I found a good running gas loader which I could buy to part out. I wouldn't consider it if I didn't have all the parts to switch from one to the other. I just ...

She runs! I just came in from playing around a bit. Turns out the fuel return was too restricted with the little J hook wire. I pulled the fuel return line from the tank and cranked but just got a couple of drops. I pulled the fitting with the J wire and connected a temporary hose. This time I got g...

John, It does look like I'm facing a couple of problems. I suspected the valve train simply because I'm sure that's something which get neglected. Especially when you have to remove the fuel tank and drain the cooling system just to pull the cover. I was planning to do this after I got it running so...
