Re: 350 lnjection pump
Need more info: is yours missing? Haven't come across one yet that can't be re-built. If yours is available I do know an honest and fair shop here in east Texas that can re-build yours.

Re: Dead 350B
Dozer "rolls" surprising easily when in neutral.Actually pretty dangerous if you're unaware. Lavoy was spot on and I also think your tracks are probably rusted at pins to bushings. Either get a bigger tractor to break it loose or a large winch( think tow truck). Once track rust bond and/or brake ban...

Re: 450C learning curve
Hi Michael, Dozer will surprise you. All depends on tree species and soil types. In sand and with a soft wood tree you can easily push over 10" butt trees all day long. Get into clay and it's a bit more difficult. Here's a trick I use: build a ramp on the push side of difficult trees(higher the bett...

450C final update and valuation
First and foremost Thank You for all who helped by answering my questions! Sold my early 80's 450C dozer project yesterday after 5 days on craigslist.Paid $2800.00 for the unit when it was dead and partially disassembled in the woods in southern LA 18 months ago. Repairs were:new turbo, exhaust manif...

Re: 450c new trans
And again I learned something! I'm in Texas and on a BAD winter we might get a day or two in the 20's.Normally a few hours below freezing a few days a week and that's about it. Glad to hear it was just a clutch adjustment too.

Re: Any one else caught "the bug"?
Good Morning Cutting Edge, See you are up early too. Nice post.Funny story on tools: I bought 6000 pounds of hand tools at auction from the military. All U.S.A. made and some new and some needing to be melted down.Took a VERY long time but I kept what I wanted/needed and sold a little over 2000 poun...

Any one else caught "the bug"?
Friends and some family(not the wife thankfully) think I'm crazy to keep buying dozers, etc and need considerable work and then sell or keep them.Been blessed with a good living and can afford new or newer equipment to use but I don't get any real enjoyment from that. Give me a dozer I have to drag o...

Re: 450C Track Loader, Stupid Question
Coarse thread and if memory serves they are 3/8". You can always get a known thread nut (3/8 NC) and try it on the shaft.I have dealt with shafts with either the treads cut off or obliterated and had good luck using a high strength silicone adhesive. It will hold during use and knob can still be rem...

Re: 450c new trans
Not an expert by any means but it sure sounds like clutch is slipping. Run for a little while in 1L and check for that infamous burning clutch smell.I'd also drop the belly pan and check the weep hole right behind the engine block and see if it's clear and if not ,clear it and see if oil is running ...

OH HAPPY DAYS!
Just an update on the 450C dozer project for my fellow enthusiasts. Dozer is done except decals and armrests(waiting on parts is a never ending battle). Can't figure out how to post pics but for those who want to see the final result you can go to craigslist tyler texas heavy equipment and then sear...

450C tensioner update etc
Ended up splitting the tracks (master pins were welded of course) and found seals in both tensioners completely disintegrated. Non-OEM tensioners but did find the correct aftermarket yokes and seal kit so got that fixed. This was a fairly indepth re-build so bullnose and belly pan was off. Installed...

Re: 450b fan
Yes it is reversible.Simple trick: it's a tight fit between your hand and tool( 3/8 ratchet and should be 1/2"hex head head bolts on fan to pulley hub and there are 4 bolts) and the inner radiator face. Cut a piece of cardboard that you the place against the inner radiator face so you won't scrape a...

Re: 450C dozer track group
Hi CuttingEdge, Looks like that was done in the past and best guess is that when they installed new seal kit and rewelded shaft the heat from the weld ruined the seal kit. The cut/weld evidence is on the shaft about 6" back from the yoke assembly. Side note: pulled the water pump yesterday to instal...

Re: Track questions
There are 36 track shoes on each side plus 4 track shoe bolts and nuts(special hardened steel) per shoe. Unless you have the patience of a rock and a very high torque impact wrench you will be cutting all of the track shoe bolts to get the old shoes off.Prices for track shoes(16" wide btw) are all o...

Re: 450 engine weight
Can't say with 100% certainty but based on my past and working on engines I would guess 600 pounds+/- with head and manifolds etc still attached.
I've man-handled bare blocks in the past and they aren't terribly heavy when stripped but assembled engines do have some poundage to them.
