Thanks for the pictures dmh. I had to remove the clutch housing on my 450 loader back in October. It was quite a job to get it out and even more difficult to get back in. It’s a lot heaver than it looks. I see in your pictures that the clutch return spring is broken. I had to replace mine also and t...

Pull the plugs out of the bottom of the clutch housings to drain any water out. I had the same problem and it was half full of water. I thought the clutch was bad so I pulled the fuel tank, battery boxes and clutch top cover before I found out it had water in it. I went ahead and removed the clutch ...

I wiggled the transmission input shaft when I had the motor out. It had a very sight amount of end play, no more than a few thousands. I don’t remember there being any side to side play in the shaft but I will check it more thoroughly when I pull the motor this winter. I replaced both the input shaf...

I finally got to a point that I could run the loader on level ground for a while. I ran for about 4 hours and stopped to fill the transmission once during that time. I added about 1 ½ gallons and another gallon when I quit running. The leak must be under pressure because it doesn’t leak while sittin...

I tried adjusting the needle valve and the shift hesitation didn’t change so I put it to work in the pond. I ran for about 2 hours and everything seemed to work fine. I noticed some oil drips on the ground and stopped to check the transmission oil. I had lost about a gallon of oil in 2 hours. I craw...

I got the loader back together yesterday. After adjusting the clutch the tractor pulls well in both forward and reverse. I even stuck the bucket in the ground and it would spin both tracks. BUT I still have too much of a delay in the shift to reverse. It is like two shifts. The loader will start to ...

The main clutch, pressure plate and flywheel were full of the nest material. It was stuck in the springs between the disk, pressure plate and the flywheel. The rubber plug that goes over the pressure adjustment plug was missing which allowed the mice into the housing. Here is my theory about the sli...

The pump housing was snug when I pulled it off. I had to twist while pulling to get it to come off. I think it may have been the bushing that was snug. I’ll look closer at the seal tonight. I’m going to check the clutch on the engine tonight also. With that mouse nest in there some of the crap may h...

When it started slipping the first thing that I did was check the oil level. It was still on the stick and I added about 1 ½ gallons. That brought it up to full. I don’t remember that 3 or 4 second delay until the last ½ to 1 hour of running. I know that I added oil to the transmission one time befo...

I used the clutch 90% of the time while in the pond. I didn’t want to get the thing stuck in the muck so I stopped the tractor with the manual clutch when it started to pull down from the load in the bucket then shifted the HLR to reverse and let out the clutch to back up the slope. A few times ther...

Thanks vestor, I planed to clean the clutch with brake cleaner before going back together. I took the clutch housing off to access the pump and front seal. That’s a tough job with the loader frame in the way, but I got it done. I ordered the parts today. There is still one thing that troubles me, th...

I downloaded the service manual Friday evening and did a little studying, but not enough. I didn’t read through the pressure test thoroughly enough and just checked the pressure at idle. The pressure was 75 psi at idle and dropped off slightly and returned to 75 psi after shifting from high to low a...
