Re: 450C Coolant Heater, where to install
A coolant heater is used to warm the coolant and surrounding metals/liquid to allow faster turn-over and starts at low temps. I bet NW Montana has these low temperatures we are talking about. Yes, I would definitely install a electric tank type heater.

Re: I need Help!!! JD 550G Torque Converter
Have you looked at the on-line Deere parts manuals. I’m not a 550G or torque expert. But here is a link.

Re: crawler forks??
Found these on EBay. Not sure they are original, but seller states the forks came off a 420C. They are inexpensive, buy-it-now price. Hope they work for you and you are near Harrison, Tennessee.

Re: 3315 winch question
Good morning, First, prices vary from region. But I can tell you the log arch is nearly worth the entire asking price in the Midwest. If you did not see the winch work, consider it to need work/rebuild. The winch in the link has the suspect square type rotary valve( it is the small square control va...

Re: 420C and what do I need?
The right handed reverser on the 420C is a great option. It is gear driven and as indicated earlier you have to come to a complete stop using the clutch and brake. With a quick snap you are heading the opposite direction in the same exact speed you were going. A properly operating reverser should sn...

Re: Hydraulic leaks and systems.
Sounds like a cylinder packing has failed. It it much more common for the cylinder to fail vs the valve body.
Are you able to isolate one cylinder with the blade up and then the other cylinder? This may help determine which or if either cylinder is in need of a rebuild.
Best regards,
Bruce

Re: Wire Mesh Filter
According to the Deere parts web site, that type of filter and part number is for a dozer with a SN <184580. Parts site https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/ Actual part number on the site https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/search/type/parts/equipment/66325/term/AU14022 Hope this helps. I suspect yo...

Re: cleaning/torching winch brake bands?
I would start with the small cylinder on the brake band actuator. Some of the evidence has been cleaned up, but I would start by rebuilding the cylinder.

Re: Just Purchased a 400G
Nice looking crawler with inside mount dozer. Some Deere crawlers had the SN stamped in the battery box metal directly behind the original SN plate. Very gentle cleaning may reveal a SN in small font.

Re: bolt on track cleats
My 350 straight parts manual actually shows some special bolts JD used to sell as traction aids. These chalk bolts are the same for 350 and 450. I priced a full set at Deere’s full price at ~$10 per bolt, 2 bolt per pad etc etc you get the point. This was app 10 years ago, thought I would save my m...

Re: crawler forks??
Hello,
I do not have a lead on original forks. But MTL out of GA has some interesting / affordable forks. This you tube post shows a guy putting a large set in a 450C.
