Re: MC Starter Weak, Replace or Rebuild?
bbart, Well best of my knowledge the older models including the 40.s were all without bolt holes....they used a cone shaped pin w/locknut to secure the starters....I took my 40s to a MaDeere shop...that had electrical shop....they literally went thru the thing and even changed out the lever...contac...

Re: 40C not turning to the left - fiber clutch thickness
Pauly68, Once you get info on clutch thickness and decide to re assemble....the brake band needs to be loosened all the way to clear drum when trying to get final back in..can drag quite a bit...as it approaches entry look closely and adjust as necessary for clearance...if dragging a bit..i used a l...

Re: 40C not turning to the left - fiber clutch thickness
Pauly68, OK so It sounds to me like the major problem was simply proper adjustment of the LEFT Brake period.... now that you already have it apart...what does that brake band actually look like insofar as ..condition?...new is roughly about 1/4 inch thick...and cost is between 200-300...as far as th...

Re: 40C not turning to the left - fiber clutch thickness
Pauly68, Well i certainly do need a little more information in regards to which side these clutches come from,??? If these are what is in the left side steering....they would be driving you to turn right.....in order to turn left your left brakes have to be working properly to lock that side and ena...

Re: JD 440IC Steering Clutch Adjustment
Hulld, Is your throwout bearing located to the point where the bolt and washer actually sets at the outer edge of the lip? if so and you are 1/4inch away from touching the fingers, then it may well be time to replace clutches/steels....make sure that the t/o is out as far as you can get and still ti...

Re: 440ic steering clutches
Hulld, Seems I do recall my handles moving back kinda by themselves when released. As far as left one moving differently i would say probably that return spring got weakened over time....as it seems for some reason everyone uses that left brake more than the right one???? make note for future to rep...

Re: 420c carb & roller grease questions
Fallon, Just a side note..my 420 c loader...has button head zerks on both sides of each track...i have found that only 1 side is supposedly the grease entry...??? i checked by taking zerk out greasing and sticking rod into it to see if grease only...met solid metal obstruction in that outside point....

Re: 440
Well Blackdirt, Welcome to the world of EXPENSE..If you are talking of a JD440 crawler it helps to identify what you have. Re: jd420 pics
Hi Jim, Unfortunately I do NOT possess a timing light and never used one.., usually do this old school but it has been a bit long in the tooth since last from scratch. Re: jd420 pics..install final

Re: jd420 pics..install engine
Well guys, I am back to engine....it is now installed....am now at TDC #1...both valves..closed...so i check flywheel timing mark is at TDC...now check distributor and rotor is pointing directly at the #1 spark plug contact?????....flywheel is NOT at the SPARK timing mark.
