The original key came in today in the mail, And got the new key from JD Deere Dealer. So I installed a battery, checked to see if it would crank over. It does turn over. Checked the oil level, way too high, so I will drain the crankcase tomorrow, put in new oil. I have no manual on the diesel engine...

I went to JD dealer this morning to get key for my 1010, our local dealer did not have one on hand. But they have one at another dealer, which will be here this after noon.

Thanks Ken, I'll check with the dealer tomorrow for a key. Doesn't hurt to have an extra key.

Took me 2 months to finally get the 1010 that I purchased home. First attempt I burnt (fire) my truck up. I had to get my farm truck road ready, which hadn't been road ready since 2013. Will attempt to start crawler this week.

Thanks Lavoy. i called the previous owner about the key, he said he forgot to give it to me, going to mail it tomorrow. I'm going to try to start the 1010 this week. Defiantly needs a new radiator cap, no rubber seal in it at all.

I finally got the Crawler that I bought Fathers day home yesterday. I cannot read the serial plate, so I do not the year. The gear shift is on top of trans housing, where as my other one gear shift is on the dash. Also it has a ignition switch that I have never seen before, two holes that ya put som...

OK Lavoy, I'll be in touch when i get this tractor home and check everything out. I talked to the actual owner this morn, and he said the reason it kept getting hot, was the radiator had a real bad leak. I'll put my radiator on it when I get it home. Also I'll do a pressure test on the cooling syste...

NO!!!

It don't normally get much below freezing here (Banana Belt). I'll put block heater on it and I DO NOT LIKE starting fluid.
Thanks for all the info. I will get back and let everyone know how the crawler runs. Hopefully like owner thinks, it is just a blown head gasket.

So what is the pit falls of this crawler. It is diesel, i was told owner thinks that the head gasket is blown. It seems to be in a lot better shape than my gas 1010. Going to bring it home Thursday, 325 miles one way to get it.

So how much and what parts will interchange from a JD 350 to 1010, Will the tract and rollers interchange? I know the engine is different.

Is the GM 271 Detroit diesel what is used in the John Deere crawlers???? The one I'm looking at is a 271 A-4

WELL i was wondering what had happened to him. I was to by another individual tractor salvage yard that he sold out. But he did not know what Raiph was doing..
