did your top end (rocker arm assembly) have oil in and around it or was it dry? I had a M that I worked on that had been "Rebuilt" several years previously that had had the rear cam bearing installed incorrectly blocking the oil flow to the valve train. It was dry and dusty up there. after talking t...

Awe, come on guys. If you saw my old girl you would know why cutting a hole in the hood and making another flap door is no big deal. There are a couple of dents in the hood (fron the inside out ???) that I have tryed to polish out with a sledge hammer to no avail. That sucker is thick and hard!! She...

Sam, Were you using the foot clutch when reversing? Is the transmission in gear and the reverser knuckled in to either forward or reverse? It does nothing in either position? If it was working properly and you hit the clutch to reverse and then nothing then I would think it is in the main engine to ...

All of the king of obsolete's winter freighting cats use wood blocks in place of top rollers due to the fact that in snow there isn't enough "grip " for the rail chain to roll the roller and it wears a flat spot on the roller. The roller doesn't want to roll because the oil or grease is cold and sti...

Dwight, To make sure that you understand the clutch disk differences, You always use a set of smooth steel disks interlaced with either Fiber disks or the special coated steel disks. Think of the special coated steel disks as a fiber disk that lasts longer and doesn't absord water or oil (although I...

Looking at his post it indicates that it is from a 440ICD. Therefore he is dealing with diesel and not gasoline. Not the same boom issue in my opinion but then again I cut apart propane cylinders. Ya gotta be aware of what you are dealing with and respect it. I am not promoting doing anything life t...

Stan, Thanks for the imput. I know it stores well, When my dad was on a fishing trip up on Hudson Bay the old Bush pilot would land at different islands and when they were fishing he would go into the island and return with weathered plastic Jerry cans af avgas. he'd spill a little out and if it was...

Stan, Not to derail the thread but when you mentioned the 100 octain Avgas it reminded me of something that I have been trying to find information about. For my big chainsaw it is recommended to use the highest available octain gas to make the fuel mix to help keep the operating temp down. With toda...

Willyr, The washer is called "lower sealing plate" Part # M88T as I remember it is about 1/8th inch thick and about 2 or 2 1/2 inches in diam. I don't remember what size the center hole was as to what it sat on. The nut on the cover(M94T) should have a copper washer where it goes through the cap and...

Willyr, Take the filter dome off, carefully take the rubber gasket out of the groove and check it to make sure it isnt damaged in any way. Next is the most important part- clean out the groove in the base completly. If there is anything left in the groove like a piece of old gasket or dirt it will l...
