Probably a big breakdown happened or a couple of times... Going back to bearings would require machining or a new gear... The other gear on the pto shaft similar to this one is the same also. No needle bearings.

Thanks for the advise.

Thanks Ben and Lavoy. That confirms that the small pockets on the side of the gear are ok. For the brass insert, i don't find this ''feature'' in any part books from 420 to 1010... I think it is not a bad idea although it's not factory. The shaft would be blue or scrached if it was bad... It is actu...

It is strange that you have the older hub model in there. The 440icd and 1010 have the same hub t11388t (with rivets). 440, 440ICD and 1010 share the same steering shaft M1635t. Does your transmission have a dipstick? It looked like there has been modifications in your crawler or part swaps. And bel...

Re: final drives

Biggest problem with finding a good one is that the gear carrier that is used on the crawler is unique to that model. Luck,JimAnderson You're right Jim. Earlier crawlers have the ring gear bolted on (440001-448000). And later crawlers have the ring gear riveted. I wish sometimes i had a 3D printer ...

Yes. This is a problem for me also. Stripped hub and splines shortened to reach ''new'' splines. You can get some more life out of the transmission by doing that. In my case, inner and outer splines gave all they had. I found out a replacement hub. Lavoy might have one. Look at the pictures on this ...

Well, i didn't work on bull1 for a looong time. Too busy with other projects in the moment. But in the last two days i spend a couple hours on it. I worked on the reverser case. New spring, bushing, put on the pedals on it: http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff437/440ironpopper/image_zps700f8fbd.jp...

The poles of the 6 v cap are perpendicular to the holding clips. On The 12v cap you ordered they are parallele. I don't know why they sell 12 v caps...

These old machines were designed for 6v. Order a 6v cap. You'll see the terminals on it have a 90 deg difference with the 12v one. No way to time this. I had a problem with this when i bought my 1st 440. I knew it was a 12v battery, so i ordered the 12v cap. When i compared both they had this differ...

For the rad, When i compare the 2parts books, the rad# are different. Lower brackets same, upper different. The diesel 440 has a bit more power so the rad is probably different to take this increase. I agree with whiteclipse, the starter of a 440 gas, even rewinded for 12v would rush to crank a high...

Personnally I bought new parts for this. I didn't have nothing for a tach/hour meter. Lavoy had a couple tach kits in stock not long ago. Good for 420 to 440 with 5 speeds transmission. Very nice looking and fair price. So I bought Gauge and cable from Lavoy. I found out the drive gear on a 2010. We...

The gear(s) in your picture are the gear set (pumping element) of the reverser oil pump!!!! I would start asking some serious questions of why they were replaced. Why did the pump fail in the first place? Was the entire reverser rebuilt or just shoved together so the machine moves and can be sold? ...
