Re: Setting clutch on a JD450()

The manual for the JD450 specifically says to cut the notch onto the JD277 and measure the levers at the notch. It has a picture measuring the levers at the notch. I guess the confusion is the change from the 450 to the 450B. Its great to have the actual dimensions from the tool. I would like to set...

Re: Setting clutch on a JD450()

http://i1350.photobucket.com/albums/p780/matavajohn/jd277_zpssxzki04m.gif Jim B. At the risk of being a PITA I have a follow up question. The manual for the 450() says to modify the the 227 as shown in the attachment. Then measuring finger height at the .156" notch. Is the 2"+/-.03 measured on the ...

Re: Setting clutch on a JD450()

I have a 450(), I wonder if it is 2" also. Does the 450B manual recommend using he JD227 gauge with the cutout? The manual for the 450 does not give any dimension. I saw something like the method that psprague described in a post except they used metal scales clamped together. I can't find it and it...

Re: Setting clutch on a JD450()

Much closer. I need the jd227 gauge not the jd7. Lavoy has none in stock. I saw a write up on how to do the setup without the tool. All I really need is the offset dimension. Maybe I saw it on a different message board. Oh well.

Thanks

Re: Setting clutch on a JD450()

I was looking more for the write up on setting the main engine clutch on installation with the engine off. I did book mark the one you sent, I will need to do that pretty soon.

Setting clutch on a JD450()

Hi I am replacing the clutch on a JD450() with an HLR. The manual shows using a modified JD227 tool for the settings. I talked to Lavoy today and the tool is not available and may not be for a couple of weeks. My understanding is that the tool sets the distance from the finger levers to the face of ...

Re: Engine weight

Thanks. I just pulled it last Thursday. I was thinking 1000lbs worse case. I rigged an overhead track and trolley. It worked well. After all the wiring and hydraulics were removed it went pretty quick. In case any one is wondering, the clutch disk shattered at the hub as I suspected. I think it may ...

Engine weight

I need to to pull the engine off a JD 450() diesel. I did some searching and found the weight was estimated as 700 pounds? Is that correct? It sounds light. Can someone verify the ballpark weight for that engine?

Thanks
John

Re: 450 () Steering clutch/brake adjustments

Thanks Bruce

That is the way I had it figured. First touch with the throw out bearing. It's complicated by the problem of a lot of slop in the linkage. It a will get done right.

Thanks again

450 () Steering clutch/brake adjustments

Hi I am doing a steering clutch/brake adjustment on JD 450(no letter). I am going through it step by step per the manual. Got a couple of questions: When the manual says adjust free play, does it mean when the top linkage first moves or when the throw out bearing first touches the clutch? I believe ...

Re: Help with a JD450 with motovational problems.

Just to bring this thread to a close I found the problem. I used a inspection camera and found that the clutch was not spinning the transmission input shaft. It's a little hard to tell but it looks like clutch disk may be spinning but the clutch disk hub is not. The hub and input shaft look ok. This...

Spherical washers for the steering clutch

Hey I was adjusting the steering clutch throw out on my newly acquired 450. The prior owner did not install any of the spherical washers on the adjustment bolts. John Deere is asking $13 each and I need all 4. The math does not look favorable. Is there a generic replacement? I still need to go fishi...

Re: JD450 thru JD450G Serial Numbers

Riddle me this. What is a:. Type E7450,. Serial No. 0089xxT. It does not follow the format in the decoder. It has JD450 stenciled on the side. The tag is on the right side of the instrument panel attached with rivets and looks original.
