Re: 450 PTO control/engagement lever - where is it?
I would recommend pulling the clutch discs and clean them up with a palm sander. You could also remove the piston and clean up the edges. There are only a handful of disks, also sand the grooves in the drum. I’m guessing in less than an hour I could do this now and set the brake band. It helps if yo...

Re: Looking for a 6 way blade for a JD 450
I cleaned Reddig out of all their 350 and 450 Dozer assemblies. They were in reasonable condition. I have a standing order for more.

Re: Looking for a 6 way blade for a JD 450
I need a couple myself, one for a 450E widepad and one for a 450 narrow pad. I cleaned out a Kalispell Montana wrecker of all his stock in April. Doesn’t sound like they plan on buying any more older dozers for wrecking so might have to drive a bit further to find them. I found some in Washington st...

Re: Breaking News - 400G has arrived
Yes it is, with G series tin and flat operating station with a decelerator. The power is a bit overkill. Has better cross members as well. . Haven’t had any time to mess with it yet, we have had trouble keeping up with fixing rolling stock for resale. And have more machines for fixing rolling in sho...

Re: 450E transmission problem not shifting
Do you have an external leak anywhere? You can pull the 4 bolt covers on top of the steering clutches or brake band plugs on the side to see if they are filled with fluid. If so you may have a significant leak in the clutch system. Next one we work on we are going to remove the clutch housing cover ...

Re: 450 PTO control/engagement lever - where is it?
Just a few suggestions: Verify the output shaft to the winch is turning. You can probably video this from above or have someone sit on the seat while you look from underneath Make sure the actuations cable is fully engaging the valve. You can remove the cable and operate with vice grips. Check the f...

I've tried to send you PM's a couple of times but they look to be stuck in the outbox. I would like to share some pics of my current deere undertakings. Is is possible I've been blocked from sending PM's?

Breaking News - 400G has arrived
I been patiently waiting to buy a 1,400 hour 400G at a local auction. It’s now home and in great shape. It’s a local gas company machine and has a Sideboom attachment and rear winch. Canopy was cut to fit the Sideboom. I’ll be removing the boom and stealing an unmolested canopy off one of our yard l...

Re: 79 450B steering
I think you need to post some pics of what is under your seat. If it’s a 79 then it would be a C model. Easy way to tell if there is a small 2 spool valve body on top of the rear end area vs the hydraulic assist cylinders that a B model would have. Haven’t seen a B model with wet steering clutches y...

Re: 1959 440 ICD - How to get it running?
Consider the following when starting a Detroit that’s been sitting a while: - drain the engine oil and prelube the engine engine with high pressure oil, we tap into an oil pressure port and pump in fresh oil with a 12V electric over hydraulic unit. - pull the valve cover and check for stuck injector...

Re: 350c is weak in forward strong in reverse
There is accumulator in or connected to the reverser valve body. It is most likely sticking Best get a book and do some reading. Not easy to work on the valve body but much less time than removing the reverser.

The tank is factory. Have 2 9300’s that have them. We did not use them when we mounted them.

Re: 2006 undercarriage to 1984
Rails, pads and sprockets should fit. Pads and rails use large bolts starting with the G series, 9/16 vs 1/2. If you look at Deere online parts you can get rails for a 450C with 9/16 bolts. Really don’t know when the change occurred. Doesn’t matter unless you planned on doing a pad swap. Have new 45...

4239 non turbo bolts right in. Has more low end torque than a 4219 turbo.

Re: JD550E transmission quits working when it warms up.
You need to do gauge tests on both the high pressure oil coming from the pump and the regulated oil for operation. I would suggest installing 2 gauges and operate while watching the pressures. I got lucky on the last one / only one we have had to work on, turned out to be the torque pump. I did not ...
