Re: New Shirt
Stan
Thanks for the information / advise. I am not planning to go into business, just having fun in retirement. A few shirts a few decals, push some dirt and listen to the little jimmy scream.
Studebakers are my other bad habit. They used 3-53 and 4-53 GM/ Detroit Diesel engines also.

Re: New Shirt
I am not an expert on copyright issues. My understand is that if I made it for personal use and not for sale that there is not a copyright problem. I do not have a T shirt business but have made a few dozen shirts for personal use, mostly Studebaker. I plan to make decals for my 440’s also - of cour...

Re: New Shirt
Thanks B Town
I was very pleased with how it turned out. We did the art work a few months ago and finally found a shirt and some time to get it done.

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
Good to hear the hydraulic problems are fixed-progress. The engine clutch must be badly rusted. Give it a few more try’s under full load.

Re: jd440 icd ..not starting
dtoots1 Everything Lavoy said. The recommended compression test by Detroit Diesel and in the John Deere manual is a engine running compressing test with the adapter in the injector hole. If the engine you are trying to start has a block heater, plug it in for and hour or so. If not put a space heate...

Re: 2-53 Detroit diesel rear main seal
The rear crankshaft seal for the 2-53 is part # 5116229 this is the John Deere and Detroit Diesel number. The same seal is used on the 2-53 3-53 4-53 and 6v53. If the crankshaft is grooved from the old seal it should have the oversize seal and wear sleeve # 5196852 seal and 5196851 sleeve, installed...

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
Galen Before pulling the engine to replace the clutch. Try pushing with the blade. Run the dozer in 2nd or preferably 3rd gear, get enough dirt in front of the blade that you need full throttle. Keep the clutch pedal down. If it breaks loose just let the pedal up. This will put maximum load on the c...

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
If you are just wanting to get buy for a short time you could expand the lips and put the best one on the lift side of the piston. On the side towards the blade. Best thing to do is replace.

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
In the picture the seal cup on the right looks very worn on the far side. Yes they should be replaced.

Re: 440ic hydraulic question
Galen After you get the control valve back together if you still have the problem I think you should look at the cylinders. If your dozer has the original cylinders they would have had leather cups on the piston. If those have completely fallen apart or the piston had come off the rod. Oil can bypas...

I enjoyed talking to you. Glad you were able to get your dozer running again. Never a dull moment when working with and on old dozers.
