Re: Almost got hurt BAD!

Had to load a 310AD and this time I swung boom and stick 90 degrees to left (right would work too) and loading on same trailer went without front end rising at all. When on trailer I then SLOWLY brought boom and stick back to centerline and all was good.Might have figured out the safe way to load a ...

Re: JD350 diesel fuel troubleshooting?

Old mechanical diesel engines are simple:you need air, fuel, and compression to get them to run.Yours is "hunting" but will intermittently run normally. That would eliminate low compression.Next easy check is air. Higher rpm's draw more air so to troubleshoot remove both inner and outer air filters an...

Re: Almost got hurt BAD!

My trailer is a belshe with a 20' deck and a 5' dovetail. 30K gross D.O.T. rated. No problem with 450C or 450G but with backhoe I have to drive on with loader bucket forward as I need to lower boom with stick curled onto dovetail to stay below 13' 6".Have to load another 310AD backhoe this morning a...

When your wife asks what you want for Christmas...

If you have a wife and she asks what you want for Christmas here's a suggestion. Power grease gun. I bought one a couple of months ago off of amazon. Lincoln brand with 2 batteries and a charger and in a hard plastic case. First time I used it I loved it. No longer need that third hand or knee to ho...

Re: Finally won an auction!

Same here. Some machines are relaxing to fix and some are just work.Earlier post I mentioned I fixed and sold 14 Jeep Wranglers.11 were YJ's(square headlights) and enjoyed those. 3 were TJ's(model following YJ and back to round headlights) and hated every single one of those. But after 14 it turned ...

Re: 450C hydraulic pump removal

If your long term plan is to run it until it turns into a boat anchor then not addressing issues makes sense. But machine in good operating condition and well maintained does have value and is worth maintaining. Kicker is parts availability: when parts are no longer available it's time to call it do...

Almost got hurt BAD!

Dang near hurt myself Friday while loading a piece of equipment.17 degrees and machine was sluggish even after running for 30 minutes to warm up everything. During loading while going up trailer ramp front end came up way too high and then machine wouldn't shift to neutral before getting crosswise o...

Re: 450C hydraulic pump removal

Can be removed with bullnose in place but it is difficult. But removing and re-installing the bullnose can be a bear too if you're not set-up to do it easily. Here's my thought on the whole question: older unit, hydraulic pump needs attention so I would go whole hog and drop the belly pan and pull th...

Finally won an auction!

Hi folks. Just wanted to share some good news. I finally won another auction(I'm "thrifty" and as such bid tight) on a 1979 JD 410 backhoe. Rubber tired and it's about as ugly as can be. Oil squirting out of most of the hydraulic lines, most cylinders need re-packing,and did I say it is about ugly as...

Re: 450C final update and valuation

Morning DrLoch, NC is a nice state, and as with pretty much any state the rural people are good and decent folk. You probably already know what the undercarriage work entails but if you get in a bind you've found the group of people to help.Full size oxy/acetylene rig with assortment of rosebuds and ...

Re: 450C final update and valuation

Hi Paul, I got into it heavy about 4 years ago. I own a factory that manufactures HVAC coils and a dingbat doc told me to get a hobby for stress relief. Don't play golf and fishing is a little boring to me so I started buying, fixing, selling "stuff". Records are thin but in last 4 or 5years I "flippe...

Re: 450C final update and valuation

Hi Psprague, Sorry to hear that your dad passed:lost mine 14 months ago at 82. He,like yours; had a full life and I doubt either had any real regrets. These "little" dozers are surprising, got more power and ability than one would think and are easy to work on. Parts is a constant battle but most of ...

Re: 450C final update and valuation

Hi Psprague, Battery box and hydraulic tank lids both make me look twice to be sure the holding rod slipped into the "slot". I could see it coming down on a finger or hand. OUCH! Glad to hear it didn't take your finger! Man that bought my 450C hasn't called with a single complaint so it seems he is ...

Re: 1975 JD 450B no steer and value?

I buy, fix, sell or keep all types of equipment. On valuation I look at several things and first and foremost are the comps including transport costs. If the equipment is for my use alone or if I will hire out with myself as operator I use and average of $100.00 an hour rate. On your 450B I found the ...

Re: Hydraulic filter

No bleeding/venting necessary on the Hydraulic filter. You will need to bleed the new fuel filter:vent is a hex head bleed "bolt" on the top of the fuel filter housing. Look closely at your hydraulic fluid: if it's at all milky change it. A complete fluid and filter change on a typical medium dozer ...
