MC Head

Are the intake and exhaust seats replaceable on these heads or do I need to bore the head for new seats? My head is pretty dirty and I cannot tell if they are seperate or not. I am more or less curious so I know what kind of money I am going to get into because I know what a pain it is to cut heads ...

If the crawler is only run once in a while a probelm could just be the seasonal blend of the fuel. If you try to run summer fuel in the winter you are going to have cold start problems because the summer fuel is less volitile (needs more heat to evaporate) compared to winter fuel. Winter fuel is mor...

Steering Clutch Gauge

I picked up a steering clutch gauge from a friend of mine and was wondering if it is correct for my MC. Could someone possiably give me the correct dimensions for an MC gauge so I can be sure I set it up correctly.

Idler wheel

Is the big front idler wheel the same for the 40c and the MC, provided you swap the brackets where the springs mount. We just took them off and one spring is broke and one wheel is junk because the hub has a large piece broken off.

I think that if you are going to store it on concrete in a building then I really wouldn't worry about it as much. But I tihnk that you could just hold the clutch down about half way that way it would be easier on the springs but even if it did rust it should be completely stuck like it would be wit...

That is a great point Lavoy, i didn't even think about the swelling cracking the casting. The welding trick also works great at removing old valve seats, had to do that to remove the seats out of my flat head v-8.

To go along with what Pammark said, when I strip down engines to do the machine work some of the tapered pipe plugs are terriable to remove. The teacher of my machining class tought me that you heat the plug (or bolt) cherry red then take a block of parafin wax (you can get 4-packs from the local gr...

Soak it with some kind of penetrating oil (I prefer Aero Kroil but PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench does also work), the longer it soaks the better it works. IF that doesn't work put some heat to it and work it back and forth. Patients is the the best way to free anything.

THe clutch shaft is basically a tube that the brake shaft rides inside of. So it is possable that the clutch shaft and brake shaft are seized to eachother. Probably will just have to remove the both of them and try to seperate them.

Gauge Color

What is the correct color of gauge faces for a 1950 MC. Currently the gauges on it are black, but I am looking to put new ones on and wasn't sure which color is correct.

THe other thing we used to do on the older diesels is just point the torpedo heater at the block for a while, but I would also recomend puting some type of block heater on it whenever you do get it going. But they do make dipstick heaters that go in for the dipstick or magnetic heaters that you can ...
