YES you can put 12 volt direct to the coil to see if that helps MOST cars had "HOT START" that put 12 volt to the coil for starting then dropped back to about 6VOLT for run .... Looks like it would be pretty good machine running IF you have not done this yet you need to get a hone in the tops of each cylinder and clean out most of the top rust and crap then before you try to pull any pistons you need the get some bolts back in the plate either short bolts or the head bolts ...

Re: 2 plugs over driveshaft on JD450b dozer
I was told the one right above the driveshaft was used to fill the final drive. Thanks. NO! NO! NO! AND NO!........ The angled one is to get to the set screw on the clutch/brake drum so you can remove the final drive pinon gear the one just forward of that one is to remove a brake band anchor pin ....
