I just had my starter rebuilt on my 350D and it cost $93. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
I had trouble with that top nut as well and ended up grinding down a cheap 5/8 wrench with a grinder to get it to fit.

I use my dozer and 6 way blade to move hay bales around and thought too that a lack of "tipping angle" would hamper me a lot. Granted lifting round hay bales is different then lifting pallets but this was not even an issue. With my Kubota tractor, oh I can feel the haybale on the front of it, but wi...

You got that right. It also opens up the firewood market a little better because of clean wood. Its only marginally better because people prefer tree length wood over 16 foot or 8 foot, but they would get a far better idea of what they are buying. 16 foot and 8 foot is easy to measure cord for cord ...

Wallenstein is well made, a bit more expensive, but well made. I could see that from winches, to backhoes, to trailers. I do not have a Wallenstein Winch, but I have a Fransgard Winch on my Kubota Tractor and it is nice!! 150 feet of cable, a tractor that can sneak between trees, and as you pointed ...

The Wallenstein Solution
I finally answered my problem of getting wood out of the forest with my bulldozer. As some of you recall I was having a lot of issues snapping 3/8 chain chokers when logs got hung up on stumps, roots and rocks. Well when I passed an equipment place on my way to get my dozers starter fixed, I came ac...

I raise sheep now which is an interesting livestock to raise too. During lambing season, life is intense as you might get 6 lambs in a day that all require a lot of attention to keep alive. I mean you must figure, they are like infants, the same weight and vulnerability, yet once they get some age o...

Dare I say it...I was looking at a Cat D3 and was surprised that they still made that model, but its size is kind of misleading. At 80 HP, it is twice the size of my 350D which for me, is a good size for the logging I do. (Small scale and my own woodlot). It is scary to think that today, to get a sm...

I have always been on the bottom end of things I guess. It always amazed me in farming that they would haul our milk away after we produced it, take it down to the creamery where they dilute it with water, separate it, add sugar for "taste", sell it on us, then 2 weeks later send us a check for what...

I paid $10,000 for a 1988 JD 350D with six way blade with 100% rebuilt undercarriage with NO arch or winch with 3300 hours on it. The machine had very few welds on it and overall was in very good shape with no leaks. A few annoyances are worn pins in the blade, and a sloppy blade lever, but that was...

I would never steer someone from here, but yes there is a good group of guys over on Forestry Forum that know skidders inside and out literally. (www.forestryforum.com) That being said, many of us on here have cut our share of wood with skidders, unfortunately, while I know a 3-53 Detroit quite well...

I never chimed in on this, but thanks to everyone's help, I was able to adjust my own clutches and got my dozer working very nicely now. While I was wrenching I even dug into the reverser linkage and remachined parts so it is both tight and very solid now. That is, no slop in the getalong so to spea...

You know I was thinking of just that when I worked on this starter! I will say now that I am retired I actually like wrenching again. I think its because before, when I built ships 5 days a week, when something broke I had to stop and fix it, taking time out of the 52 days a year (Saturday) I had to...

I told them I was impressed with their prices. I was blunt and said "at $60 flat rate, I kind of figured you would add a whole bunch of parts to make up for it", too which they said, that was why they left the dealership they used to work at. The owner did that all the time to customers and they cou...
