I used one of the Harbor Freight tachs on my 40c Hard to get a clear shot at the crank pulley so I used the flywheel through the hole for the timing mark If you cant get the tape to stick white paint seems to work.

Winch for 40c

What make and model of winch should I look for that will fit my 40c? Is the Gearmatic 8g the only one that will fit or do all pto winches have the same attachment method?

There are probably others out there that know more about this but according to my 40 parts book, the powershaft attachment with the pin type coupler is unique to the 40H and 40W. There are also 5 different transmission rear cover and yoke assemblies listed for the different models of 40's. The one f...

Have you checked the safety blocks? If it's like a 40c, they can engage if the tracks fill up with "junk" and prevent the crawler from moving. If totally engaged they can stall the tractor.

Sorry about that. I noticed your profile said 40c but missed the header that said early 1010. Ignore what I said.

Yes. You might have to reverse your sprockets and move track carrier and safety blocks outward to the proper track width. There are chisel marks on each crossbar to help align the track carriers with the sprocket. There are two different sprockets available for the 40c 4 roller. The deep one gives y...

Lavoy, I checked the carrier today and can not find a number on it. If you have one there could you tell me the measurement from the face of the lugs where they contact the yoke to the machined face where the bearing seats. That would tell me if mine is correct or not. Thanks.

Yeah, I figured that would be the case with the fingers. I took the carrier to a welder to build up the lugs. I'll check out the number when I get it back. Should the bearing be all the way down on the carrier? There is a lot of wear on the round part of the carrier as if a bearing was turning on it...

Checked the thickness of the throw-out bearing against one advertised by Steiner's. It is the correct .801" so that's eliminated as an issue. As I see it, I am only left with the worn carrier as the problem unless anyone has any other ideas.

OK. I checked it out today. Pilot bearing is ok, clutch disc is not warped and clutch rod looks straight. What I did find is that the lugs on the sides of the carrier are worn down about 3/16". I will get them built up but is that enough to cause my problem? Also, I see in the parts book that there ...
