Re: carb problem
I'm guessing you didn't find all the holes in the load jet Lavoy mentioned. They can get so completely filled in that they no longer exist, and you have to shine it up to see where there are dark spots instead of brass.

Re: John Deere mc milky oil after valve job
Last guy could be on to something, February is a pretty wet month. I'd wait a couple months and see if the oil stays clear in the dry weather. I sometimes get the milky oil from plain old condensation and the engine doesn't get hot enough to drive it off.

Re: almost free goodness for garden
Around here, DOT will watch you drive by with your untarped load, scrap car tied down with rope, etc. Unless it looks like you are a commercial guy with lots of $$$, then they will want to see your ELD, have scales under each wheel to find the one that's overweight, be under your truck with a tape m...

Re: final drive housing
My parts book only shows one part number for 420s and 430s. Just make sure it has 4 bolt holes where the side frame bolts up. Early 420s had only 2 bolts and you don't want that one.

Re: Alternator question on 410 TLB
At least you are only out $86 and not the $300 I lost rebuliding a 420 starter, new armature, brushes and brush plate and bendix, to then find out one field coil was also shot. Can't source field coils for them these days, only another whole starter. Those starters have field coils? I thought they ...

One of our wrecks made the video feed for Good Morning America this morning. 18 wheeler pulling a 48' loaded flat bed sliding backwards down a hill and taking out a signal light pole. That happened about 2 miles from my house by our high school. Nobody hurt so is funny to watch. Amos I saw this on ...

My father spent the entire day trying to start his diesel tractor to plow snow.

Re: 420 hydraulic pump clearances
Never mind, it had ice in it again. I probably just need to use heavier oil and I have added a drain valve to the tank so it can be easily flushed every year like it's supposed to be.

Re:
I run AW48 or AW62 hyd fluid. On occasion where we have a crawler that has hyd couplers on the back, and it may share a piece of equipment with a later model tractor, we use HyGard or equivalent to prevent cross contamination. You typically lose about 100PSI with HyGard, and the pumps seem to howl ...

No one is upset, it's all good. I agree that your smoke, nor any other byproduct of your activities, should affect neighbors. But does it do harm to others to produce CO2? That can't clearly be seen. We have made great strides in energy efficiency in the last decade, and I think that such technologi...

The idea of limiting carbon emissions to control climate change (sorry, the science is absolutely bullet proof even if you choose to ignore it) it is absolutely no different then the idea of issuing hunting licenses instead of just walking out and shooting as many deer as you want. I don't hear man...

420 hydraulic pump clearances
Does anyone have the specification for the gear side clearance in the 420c pump?
I went through the entire hydraulic system last spring to fix a bunch of issues, but after putting the pump back together with new seals it is even worse than it was. Now that I need to plow snow it's dead.

That is a very interesting concept. My dad once had a splitter that had spring loaded cams embedded in the blade.
