yasmar, I would check timing, maybe at idle its to retarded but when rpms are higher and under load the distributor advances it far enough. Also make sure you use the correct marks off the flywheeel, if its dirty and rusty the marks are hard to see and read. The other possibility would be the carb i...

440IC Track Tensioner Spring Shields
Hi, By the look of some of the tensioner spring/bolt assemblies from 440IC/ICD rebuild projects it looks like it would be better to leave the dirt shields off. This way you can knock out any dirt build up and keep an eye that the spring stays in its seat. I would think this would keep the tensioner ...

Jim, I just need to check to see how worn the roller bores are, the roller is in good shape other than it had alot of play. I imagine that the bores are quite a bit oversize because the shaft had 3/8" of wear on the bottom side. But I need the standard bore measurement to determine how bad. Thanks, ...

440IC Roller Shaft & Bushings
Does anyone know if the make oversize (outside diameter) roller bushings and what is the standard bore of the roller where the bushing goes? The shaft is definately shot (has almost 3/8" wear on bottom side) but the bushing bore did not look that bad. The bushings were floating around in the center ...

Hi, The only load testers that can be counted on to be reliable are carbon pile load testers. The toaster oven style with a toggle switch will more times pass a weak battery where the carbon pile will fail it. The newer electronic load tester are better but are usually battery specific (maintenance ...

Wrenchhead, Congrats on purchase of your 440IC. Looks like most of it is there and the price was right. I also have a 440IC with 602 blade, 4 speed, no reverser, had a inopertive winch so I removed and added pto, sprocket shields, deluxe seat, hr meter, dual hydraulic control. According to serial # ...

Gary, I looked at my parts book and service manual but I was a little backwards on my thinking. I was thinking updraft carb but had choke on updraft side and not at the horizontal inlet. So it would not prevent any gas in bottom from igniting. Maybe it is to keep it from getting back to oil bath air...

Gary, I am not exactly sure what you mean by flapper on the choke plate? If I am picturing it correctly I believe it allows a certian amount of air/gas through to the cylinders when the choke is closed completly. But in case of a backfire it closes to keep the gas in bottom of carb from catching fir...

Gary, If everything else is checking OK than do not forget about the ground side of the electrical components (generator, regulator, etc). I had our John Deere B driving me nuts because it was not charging. Everything was checking out OK and than I finally started to check the grounds. I found the r...

Hi, For class 8 truck air brakes with removing the anchor pin on S cam style brakes a tool company (I believe was OTC) made a C clamp type tool to push out the anchor pin. The base of the C clamp had an opening where it would let the anchor pin come out and allowed the use of an air impact wrench on...
