Hi,
Do you have the opposite track off the ground so it can spin? Crawlers have no differential so both sides are locked together. You can block the opposite side steering stick back to release that clutch pack.

Re: 350 b reverser leak
Hi,
Ah. I see. This thread goes back to 2018. I had managed to forget that. Heck, I can hardly remember what I did last week.... So, call me confused. And, I just read it from the beginning and I'm even more confused....

Hi,
Just a point here. 350B steering clutches are dry. So, you have a 350C and not a B?

Hi,
Well, I am reading them. I rarely have anything to add when it comes to 450s, though. I've not had or been around one. It is quite the adventure you are having.

Re: Oil and oil recommendations
Hi, I buy my oil from Deere. So, Turf-Gard 10w30. Before that it was their Torq-Gard which was also 10w30 IIRC. Mine is a 58 and was sold by my Uncle out of the family JD dealership new to a dairy farmer. Dad grabbed it when it was traded in 1966 for, I think, a Mannheim 820 with a loader. I wound u...

Hi,
12v alternator means 12v battery and negative ground.
The starter will spin the correct way positive or negative ground. The alternator will smoke positive ground.
It is good to make the starter 12v before the nose cone breaks.

Re: power beyond hydraulics
Hi, Yes. Open Center on the crawlers. The Ag machines sometimes have Closed Center. They have a different pump which works with Closed Center. The idea was to not use engine power better used by the PTO for just circulating hydraulic oil. That is not an issue with crawlers so always Open Center for ...

Hi,
The 2-cyl trans is rather a pain to get into gear. I would get tired of that on a crawler after about the second shuttle cycle. So a reverser is a highly desired option.

Re: engine oil in reverser
Hi, The detergent is to grab the combustion byproducts. The sludge is those byproducts building up when non detergent oil is used. In an engine. You don't get combustion byproducts in a reverser. But the hydraulics spray oil under far greater pressure and so the need for anti-foaming additives rathe...

Re: engine oil in reverser
Hi,
Engine oil has detergents. Hydraulic oil does not. It has anti foaming agents. I would change it out. If the engine oil foams, your hyd pressure will drop.
In other words it isn't the oil part, it's the different additives.

Re: Engine Clutch
Hi, Every M, 40, 420, etc I have been around does this. It is the slight drag of the pilot shaft in the bushing coupled with the rotational inertia of the shafts and gears in the transmission. They always take about three seconds to engage a gear from neutral. It is when they never spin down when yo...

Hi, It is still here. And the newness of the 350C wore off and I went back to using the 420c some again. I keep thinking about doing a full restoration of it. Meaning get it all apart and check everything, not just a paint job. I haven't given any thought to selling it. I suppose if I did think abou...
