Re: Steering throw-out bearing

So, you have the carrier and cam off the tube? What do the inserts in the cam and quill look like? Nice smooth cup shape, smooth taper, not beat out? What do the balls look like? No flat spots, round and smooth? If you are talking about pulling the tube, I would not do that without having a new one ...

Re: Steering throw-out bearing

Is it possible the capscrew that locks the carrier to the cam, when adjusted, has one that is too long in it, has fouled the tube, and that is preventing removal? If you don't have that capscrew out, try removing it and separating the carrier and cam.

Re: Steering throw-out bearing

Just like Bill's video, once you have everything unhooked (linkage and 4 springs) it pulls off. It may have some rust, wear grooves, or burrs holding it, you just have to work it off. The tube the carrier slides on should stay in the quill.

Re: oil pump lower idler gear adapter

Don't say that. I only knew about that as I have a 2020 (180 gas) open for a broken piston and found rolling the front main out in place wasn't practical because of the block for the idler mounting. The other bearing all looked very good and checked out ok so we are going to take the chance on it fo...

Re: Steering throw-out bearing

If the cam is turning when you pull the lever it is free, which is good. To remove the cam; once the final, with steering clutch is off, unhook the linkage and 4 springs from the cam. It should come out, there might be some resistance from wear and rust but it shouldn't be difficult to remove. The b...

Re: Steering throw-out bearing

It sounds like there is something missing or out of place with the inserts and balls located between the quill and cam. This video It is a MC but the parts and theory are the same, so it may help (thanks to Bill, aka PossumFarms for the video). When you pull on the lever the cam should ride up on th...

Re: Steering throw-out bearing

When you pull the lever, the cam it turns, is supposed to ride out on the balls and inserts (which act like ramps) located between the cam and the quill. With the cam fully back into the quill (balls centered in the cup of the inserts, you loosen the capscrew that is in the slot of the carrier and m...

Re: Pulling power 450c

On the flat with free rolling tracks on the CAT probably, if the 450C tracks can bite in and not slip, the the CAT tracks don't plow in. However 4 miles and uphill in places, I don't think you will have great success.

Good to hear you found it, and you are correct it is a 1980 unit number. Good luck.

Re: Pulling power 450c

It is possible, however there are many variables that come into play as to whether or not a 450C would pull a larger dozer in any given case. Are you looking to pull one or just asking in general? If you are looking at pulling one tell all the specifics about the dozer and terrain. If just asking in...

Re: 450C not moving

The other place 450s had the machine serial number tag located was on the front of the panel below the seat, about where it would be behind your right calf when setting in the seat. It also would have been held on with rivets/drive screws and would have the same two 1/8" holes in that panel as descr...

Re: 450C not moving

This is a picture of a late 350 showing a tag. The serial number tag on a 450C should be in the same location, front panel of the battery box. If you have two 1/8" holes about 3 to 4 inches apart in that area, the serial number to identify the machine with has been removed. http://jdcrawlers.lcent.c...

Re: 450C not moving

Welcome to the board, to bad you're starting this way. First thing the engine serial number is not the main serial number you need. There should be a tag on the front of the battery box, right where you would see it when you get on the operator's station, That is the crawler serial number which is m...
