Re: 1010 backhoe buck tooth shank

Thanks Jim, there's just one shank busted off and lost. I figured I'd get the same shank as the others and replace all the teeth at once. These use a pin IIRC. I'll see if I can look up the M50 hoe at Deere.

1010 backhoe buck tooth shank

Is there a standard shank for the backhoe bucket that the replaceable tooth mounts to? I'm not sure which hoe I have, but I'd imagine JD used the same shank across a lot of machines. Any ideas?

Re: Figured out why I keep dropping track

Okay. I made up bushings yesterday. Good snug fit. I'll likely tack them in place, I see no reason not to. Still have to weld that brace on, got the wrong hole saw so I have to get that to make the part. It's coming along.

Re: Figured out why I keep dropping track

So I had a few minutes to stare at this set up today. Looking at the drawings in the books and what I have in hand, I'm wondering if the previous owner turned down the ends of the shaft and made the bushings that I found there. My shaft ends were probably 1" at one point, but the bracket bore is a b...

Re: Figured out why I keep dropping track

Hmmmm, okay, guess I'll be making some bushings myself then. Thanks, I'll be in touch.

Any opinion on how the idler bracket inside shaft area is supposed to get lubed?

Figured out why I keep dropping track

I've been getting very good at catching one track just before it slips off the idler on my 420, and at putting it back on when I don't catch it! Got things torn apart today and figured it out. I need bushings in the idler itself, of course, and in the outer castings. I can't find those (outer bushin...

Re: It's always something!

AHHHHHH!!! Tried using the 1010 yesterday. Ran fine. The hydraulics were a little shaky. Got progressively worse the more I did, an air leak on the suction side I think. No oil leaks to be seen. I have a feeling the new hose I put in is a little too long and is pushing the steel line to the pump eno...

Re: It's always something!

Got the hoses fixed, found a return line with a broken clamp and got that too. Both boys were home and I got them to help get the skid pans on. Got it across the town road without incident and made some minor repairs to backhoe. Still needs an oil change and I'll have to pull hood and tank to get at...

Re: Adding PTO to 420C

Yup, just realize that the PTO isn't going to run 540 RPM at what I'd call normal crawler speeds. I ran a bush hog off mine and had to gear down and up the engine RPMS by a lot to get effective work done.

Re: It's always something!

Got it! Had to pull the carb and do a thorough cleaning. Runs great now and the hydraulics are back to working now that I stemmed the leaks. Still needs an oil change, leaky valve cover gasket fixed, all the belly pan bolt holes chased out and I really need a seat cushion set. Also got a line a fair...

Re: It's always something!

A good idea, but this one had been sitting for about 4 years. Started right up after adding gas. Now it's spitting and sputtering. Need to drain the carb bowl and maybe clean the carb, lotsa crap in the tank I think.

Re: It's always something!

I stand corrected, the gasket IS there. Drained a bunch of water out of the fuel tank though.

Re: It's always something!

I got the wiring straightened out. The switch is still wonky and finding the neutral "Off" position is a matter of luck as much as anything. Tried to get her started and couldn't keep it running. Got thinking and looking and some clown that took the carb off to access the starter seems to have misla...

Re: It's always something!

Oh boy. Had to pull most of the wiring harness ahead of the firewall (for lack of a better term) to get up into the harness enough to unglue the crispy wires. Got it pretty well figured out, but what I have doesn't match the factory wiring diagram, big surprise! Still suspicious of the ignition swit...
