Re: 450C injection pump issues
When I was reassembling my 450C I noticed the same loose fit. Would seem that an exhaust donut should be used but none available. Asked JD tech and he said it was a sloppy fit but by loosening the turbo mount bolts and the exhaust tube to turbo section you then have enough "slop" in holes to get the...

Re: JD450C Track Plate Bolts
Hi Tuney, Not sure they are different but could be. I have used the 1.5" and with correct nut about 1/8" of thread is exposed when torqued. More thread showing with the 1.75" bolt but other than that they seemed to be interchangeable. Will be at farm with my 350B loader and have 450C dozer bolts in ...

Mouse House and Buffet
Customer of mine and I were chewing the fat yesterday and since we both have dozers and such we talked dozers. He has a newer JD 650 series Pre DEF but computerized probably J or H series but I forgot to ask. Anyway, a mouse chewed through a wire and it was dead(dozer and not the mouse). Fix require...

My JD 410-D TLB project
Getting down to the end now: repairing back side lower edge of loader bucket(peeled back in a few spots) with 3 x 3 x 1/4 thick angle and 4" x 1/4 thick flat. Got seeps on 3 cylinders but they are seeps and can wait. Got her running like a sewing machine: just bump the starter and she purrs. Still h...

Re: 550 water in transmission
Look closely for a reason as to why it's losing adjustment. When set it should stay set.Haven't worked on a 550 but back to good practice: tape your socket to the extension(if that's what you're using for adjustment). Drop the socket into case and it's a 40+ hour teardown and reassembly to recover i...

Re: JD450C Track Plate Bolts
On a 450C dozer there are 2 options: 1.5" long and 1.75" long. What I had in my hand yesterday to measure was a called 1.75" but from bottom of head to end of bolt measured 1.875". .5" NF thread. "Bolts is bolts" is often said. They aren't. Track shoe/plate bolts have a higher head and are hardened ...

Re: 550 water in transmission
tuney is correct. Another question though" how long since the tranny oil was changed? if unknown then assume decades and the condensation will be the source. DO NOT use stop leak: if you've ever opened an engine that had stop leak in it it's down right ugly. It "stops leaks" and also tends to foul e...

Re: The Dipstick Diaries
Morning Cutting Edge, Talking about log skidder reminded me of the time i decided to sell some pulpwood(30 years ago and still a little young and dumb). Was clearing a fence row and some of the pine were gooduns. Instead of letting it go to waste I decided to haul it to a pulpwood lot about 20 miles...

dtoots1: Transport comes to mind too: when I was fixing/flipping travel trailers the dealership where I got some of the parts asked what I was doing and I told them I was hauling in travel trailers from all over the country to fix and flip. "You haul trailers?" they asked. Repeated myself about haul...

Re: 2018 Is Off to a Good Start (Sarcasm)
What saddens me terribly is the drug cartel activity along the Texas southern border. Money flowing worse than Miami in the coke infused 80's. People selling their soul for dirty money and it's just sad. Here's a story you might find funny: Texas still takes cattle and horse rustling seriously. We d...

Morning dtoots1, Those little shops are a God send: owner usually older and has forgotten more than most will ever learn. Needed a 1 wire alternator of a 6V tractor I was converting to 12V and had to walk the kid at a parts store through what it was and what to look for:without a make, model, and year...

Morning Lavoy, Frisco is about 150 miles from me. I'm in Longview(120 miles east of dallas off of I-20).Like any other state our metroplexes( Dallas,Houston,San Antonio,Austin,Brownsville,El Paso, etc) really don't represent my beloved Texas. Get away from these areas and into more rural parts and yo...

Morning Lavoy, Sometimes I also wonder if the other person I'm asking questions has a good understanding of spoken English (or spoken Texan in my case). I'm just the opposite: when i sell a completed project I'll go over everything I repaired and also go over what I think will need attention in the ...

Re: The Dipstick Diaries
Back in 1975 when i was 14 my first truck was a 1966 Ford short-bed stepside. On first oil and filter change I was "thinking" black gasket sealer would be so much better than a film of oil on the filter O ring so I used that. Next oil change it only took 4 hours to get that filter off.... Ultimately...

Re: Fuel tank liner opines
Picked up tank from shop yesterday: no liner. When they vatted it bottom developed some pretty big holes and the shop ended up soldering on 2 patches and then soldering another 6 square inches on the bottom. With the patch I was unable to glass the bottom but they did a good lob and no leaks.Sprayed...
