Welcome to the board!!!
It is always a personal decison as to how anyone restores these but I am glad that you have an original JD engine to go back in it.
That Lister sounded cool, just does not fit with what I expect to hear from a JD crawler. LOL

It is a collection of parts, as we say here in the south. The tank has been added.
Looks like someone is going to waste a lot of money on this one, not only when they pay more than scrap price, but when they try to restore it.

Sounds like you have it all under control!
There were three different style battery boxes that I am aware of and that depends on which way it mounts.
Do you have a part number for the one that you have?

They are pretty easy to work on as long as the hood is off. With the hood on, it is difficult to do much more than change the oil in the breather cup, fuel filter, oil filter, and adjust the low and high speed. Those holes may be for a limb riser/ROPS cage. I will have to take a close look at mine w...

I am not sure what our rain deficeit is currently, but our otherwise flowing creek is simply a wet spot.
That red clay was tough. It made the old girl smoke a little which was actually fun.

Thanks Howard. It is obvious that I have not taken the time to paint it and doll it up. I will eventually get to that and will take it to a few local shows.
My main concern was getting it mechnically sound and rebuilt.
The 440 is my favorite for many reasons!

JD 440 ICD Let the projects begin!

Now that the 440 ICD is running, I have a growing list of projects. The first one is trenching around my sheds to drain rain water better. Next will be cutting deer hunting lanes and removing some stumps. Oh what fun!!!!! http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o211/jd440icd/zpfile002.jpg http://i121.pho...

WOW, did the hair on your head stand up when she fired up? That is awesome. The rest of it is just little details. 1. The tranny in the ICD is the later one, the one in the book holds only 8 quarts. I do not recall the quantity but keep filling your tranny until it is on the mark on the stick. 2. A ...

Go to your Photobucket site where your pics are loaded. When you scroll over a pic, a box will show up with various options: "Share|Edit|Delete|Move" Move your cursor (arrow) over "IMG Code". When you click it you will temporarily see the word "Copied". You have now captured that image. Go back to ...

If your fuel pump is working and all of the plumbing is correct, you do not need to bleed it. It is a postive flow/waste fuel system. Mine actually popped a few times on just the fuel left in the injectors from factory testing. I turned the fuel on and she fired right up. With that said, there is on...

The nice thing about these diesels is they only need compression (heat), air (blower), and fuel. If there are no restrictions to the air and blower is working, fuel pressure on the feed line of at least 50 PSI, it makes compression, and the injector timing is close, she will fire right up. Try to ge...

440 iron popper, Thanks for your comments! I will have someone run the camera and get some pushing video. It has turned out to be most mechnically pleasing. The 2-53 starts faster than I have ever seen one, and does not smoke unless the governor cuts in under load. I know this is the way they were w...

I installed a key switch and it always seems to be out of fuel for some reason when someone wants to "just borrow it for a few minutes."
LOL

I tried being nice and it does not work, so I just say no I do not loan it to anyone for any reason.
