i would say yes...believe that shaft is literally driving the machine, as to what oils not sure, would expect that whatever you use as engine oil should be fine, since no clutches are in it now..

Wow that was a bit of a surprise...1 handle steering....my jd440ic serial number is 453440 and i think is also 1960 model....though am kinda glad it did NOT come with the Pilot Touch...

Believe on your friends 1010....that model 63 sound to be for the blade...dozer seriel number should be i think on the engine block.. someone will come along and post correct info as to location.

E.Huffman, my 440c bearing with the new clutch pack from Lavoy, also runs to the end of the slot..actually have to have the flat washer on it to catch and hold the end of the slot...right steering...not replaced and it too is at end of slot...so appears JimB and others would be on target. and YES ta...

Swany, My 1960 440ic actually ...does have the metal tube running to the head.....it does NOT come from the filter...it is actually off to the left of the filter and appears to come out of the block and up to the head... will see if can get pic off donor block...if you need...pm me and can pic from ...

presume you are somewhat mechanicaly able, if you own dozer you will need to be able to work on it... that particular type of hydraulic cylinder is the easiest to work on, lubricate the nuts on those long bolts...you do not want to break them! first get blade solidly in position so that when removin...

Tried accessing the pic server and unable to connect...
