Thanks Stan
It is amazing the versatility of these machines and the 'substitutions" I find in my "project to rebuilt this 420C machine. Let's see: MC Carburetor, 40C crawler links- will see what I find next!

420C Carburetor
I have a 1956 420 crawler. The parts info I found indicates it should have Marvel Schreiber carburetor model TSX641. The unit installed on my crawler is a TSX245 which I believe was used on the earlier MC machines. Is there a a difference? Does the TSX245 cause performance or other issues when used ...

Re: idler Disassembly issues
Thanks- actually had already tried that. This project gave me an excuse to buy a 20 ton press. Took most of the available force but eventually it "popped" and I was able to push it out Lots of corrosion leading to siezure. On to thenext part of the project!!

idler Disassembly issues
Disassembling take-up idlers as I plan to replace standard ones with oversized units. First one came apart as expected. Second one the shaft seems to be seized in the bushings.I tried a large gear puller to push out the shaft but it will not move. Suggestions? Do I need to put in in a press?

Re: tracks
Danny I can attest the 40C belt will fit your 420C but as noted by lavoy they are "different". Unbeknownst to me, My 'Project" 420C had 40C crawler belts when I purchased it. The belt was worn and out of pitch. A former owner also had apparently removed a link in each belt to accomadate the wear. Wh...

Not sure the brand but I had an opportunity to talk to Berko factory engineers last week at the mining show in las vegas. They confirmed that Berko does NOT have a product that fits the 420C (for what it is worth). I am "collecting" used 420c rails. Close to getting enough to take to Lavoy for a ful...

Oversized Idler on 420C
I was recently at a salvage yard and found a 420C Idler and tension spring assembly that I couldn't pass up only to realize when I got it home that it was the Oversized Idler. What was the purpose of the oversized idler? Intuition says it was for worn pins and bushings but the parts book shows it wi...

Nice Pics- bigger than my "new 420c"
Good to see- I spent my career on these machines (about to retire after 40 years) I had design responsibility for much of the 495 series shovels particularly the electrics.
Now I have a lowly 420c ( great machine) which is younger than me an weighs about the same as one crawler pad on the 495!!

40C tracks on a 420C??
Continuing to learn about the "toy" as I start to embrace the many 420 crawler rebuild projects. Knowing I had considerable wear with apparently a link already removed (30 links each side on a 420C 4 roller), I have resigned myself to make a sizeable investment and have Lavoy rebush/pin my crawler b...

420C tach drive lubrication
Considering adding a tach to my 420C. Found and bought a used tach drive. Reasonable condition but turns with a bit of drag. Can this be lubricated/ Suggestions?

many opportunities(needs) "new" 420c
Starting to look at all the 'enjoyable" projects on the 420c not sure where to start but could use some advice on the following. Fortunately engine runs well and everything is functional 1) only 3 of the 8 lower rollers appear Ok . others are bad to shot-- are rebuild kits available for the rollers?...
