I already had it out pushing some dirt before the ground froze, but the steering clutches already need adjusting, I'll adjust them in a few weeks, then as soon as the ground thaws I'll be out moving some dirt.

Brake Bands

I found a gentleman to look at my brakes from Bridgewater NH, and he told me I still have plenty of life left in the bands and they just need adjusting. This man restores mostly 1930's era "Caterpillar" equipment and has quite a few restored crawlers, he is incredibly talented and altough his restor...

Brake Rod

I'm trying to adjust my brakes and steering on my 1966 450 crawler, and I've run into some problems, my first one is I broke the bolt that goes to the bell actuator, hopefully I can get it out, my second problem is the left brake rod does not have enough thread to put the yoke in the right position,...

Steering Clutches

I was using my 450 crawler yesterday and suddenly I had very little left steering, it smelled as if something was burning when I tried to turn left. I'm assuming it must be the steering clutches, altough the guy I bought it off of in June said he had replaced them, could it be they need adjusting, a...

Thanks Lavoy, I'll try the threaded inserts, I put in extra long bolts and caught some thread, so they're staying in for now but who knows for how long. I bought this machine at an auction(4,500.00) and the hour meter only read 837 hours, and the meter has been working since I've had it, so maybe it...

450 Crawler transmission lines

My steel transmissions line were badly worn so I replaced them with high pressure rubber line with a slightly larger inside diameter, basically the same as the short length ones that went from the steel lines to the tansmission and cooler, now they're just that way all the way back replacing the ste...

Wedges for front blade

Does anyone know where I can purchase the steel wedges that hold the blade in the tilt position on my 1965 450 crawler, the dealer tells me they are no longer available.

Stripped bolts to clutch housing

The 7/8" x 3-1/2" bolts that go thru the frame and hold the clutch housing on my 450 are stripped or should I say the female threads they go into are. I tried a longer bolt in hopes of catching some thread but had no luck, does anyone know of any type of bolt maybe slightly larger that would be self...

Transmission oil cooler line 450 crawler

I have a steel line that has a split in it, that goes from the filter mounted by the radiator to inlet or outlet at the transmission, my question is can I replace that line with a 3/4" 300 psi rubber line in place of the steel?

1965 450 crawler dozer

I took the front engine cover off yesterday and discovered the source of my leaks, one was from a transmission coolant line, and the other was from the neck of the oil dipstick, that just need tightening, and the hose I was able to cut at the break and still had enough length to re-attach, I'm going...
