The reason I bring this all up is that while you can access the steering clutches through the inspection covers on the top of the housing without removing the finals, if you have these leaks or need to replace the brake band you may have to remove the final drives which is an additional and awkwardl...

Good morning Scott- Scott, you should understand that this job has the potential for growth once you get in there. Although the initial issue may be the steering clutches, you should also understand that the steering clutches and brake bands are an integrated steering system- the steering clutches d...

Thanks for posting this up- I really enjoy seeing modifications made by members to restore functionality since the original parts to restore them are difficult and usually expensive to obtain. It looks like you took the time to make it well-built. Please let us know how the mods hold up over time wi...

I believe there are two air cleaners on a stock 2010- the dry pre-cleaner that is more obvious above and then the oil bath cleaner below at your feet as previous described. maybe he only checked the pre-cleaner? If you read my older posts about 2010 issues the starter condition makes a BIG differenc...

I'll speak to the 2010 crawler as I know the procedure for it; I can't say the JD 410 TLB is the same because the 2010 is an open center hydraulic system but not sure about the 410. On the 2010 with the open center hydraulic system, you fill and then while running extend and retract each set of cyli...

Good evening, and welcome to the board. Based on what you provided, you have a JD 440 Industrial Crawler Diesel (or ICD). Based on the serial number, it appears to be a 1960 which was the last manufacturing year they were produced. The engine should be a General Motors (GM) 2-53. You have what is ca...

Welcome to the board! "Chevy" Tractor

I was at an auction this weekend and one of the items for auction was a "Chevy" tractor. It is basically a custom-made "Frankenstein". I'm happy to tell you what I know about it from the auctioneer if you have any questions about it: http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t182/GLHEquipment/100_8045.jpg ...

Re: Battery disconnect switch and main frame rail 1010

In regards to my frame rail portion of this post - I have a cracked frame rail. Left side, between reverser mounting holes and cross member mount on my 1010. Luck would have it, my parts machine also has a broken rail. I can purchase a new rail for $300 from local fab shop, I would have to remove o...

There are some pretty good discussions on this board by Jdemaris about injector and injector replacement if you search for them- some are adjustable and some are "throw-away" when worn.

It's amazing how much a DeLorean will go for nowadays, or an Edsel.

I have heard of pull starting older crawlers- basically pulling behind another and pop starting it. You certainly can do it with wheel tractors. While I have not seen this, what I heard was it was done for crawlers that had pony motors for starting that would freeze up or otherwise not work and coul...

I would suggest reading the document at this link (even though specific to Dresser crawlers) because it is really helpful in understanding how undercarriage works as a system.

One thing I would point out about DOT enforcement of load weights- when stopping at a weigh station or getting a portable scale used on you, they look at the weight per axle for your setup. Thus it is not only the actual gross weight but also how it is distributed on the trailer or vehicle.
