Thanks for the insight guys. Paul the photos are great. Lavoy, do you have replacement parts like the brushes, bushings and the drive assembly? If so could you let me know what the prices are so I can determine which route to take?

Starter for early 440ic
Does anyone know where I can find a good rebuilt starter for my 440ic? I'm still running it at 6 volts and with the weather in the single digits both of my worn-out starters, that I swap back and forth, either get jammed or won't engage. I think it's time to upgrade.
Thanks, Roger

#35 Ripper
Hi, does anyone have an owners manual and/or a parts catalog for a #35 ripper? I got most of the parts to the ripper a while back and now I'm trying to put it on the back of my 440 that has a Henry backhoe mount. Thanks, Roger

Thanks for pointing that out. I should have known that given I have the 440 and the 420u... I bet it would take a long time to fill it with oil through the dipstick hole! I did check the parts catalogs for both machines and they both list the same part number for the block, AT-10394-T. I guess I can...

420-440 Engine Swap
Hi, I've got an earlier model 440IC dozer and a 420u tractor that both could use an engine rebuild. I've found an engine from a 420 dozer that I would like to rebuild and then swap with the 440IC and the 420u. Are the engines from these 3 machines exactly the same so that they can be swapped between...

Ripper from a 440
I just picked up ripper that a friend took off a 440. It's solid but has quite a bit of rust and has seen some modifications to hold thinner 1" replacement shanks so needless to say there aren't any markings on it. I'd like to identify which model it is and maybe find a manual/parts catalog on it. W...

440 reverser
The reverser on my 440ic was removed before I got it and I would like to put one in. Are reversers for all 440's the same? Also, how much should I expect to spend and what major broken or worn parts should I look for? Thanks, Roger

440icd loader on craigslist
Hi, I just saw a 1959 440icd loader listed today on Craigslist for $1850. If you go to Seattle and then search for "tractor" it should come up. Here's a copy of the listing: 1959 John Deere 440ICD Loader. (ICD means Industrial Crawler Diesel.) If you have a driveway to keep smooth or some logs to dr...

What material would you recommend for the bushings? The Henry parts/manual calls out for "bronze bushings" most places except for a couple of places like the lower boom bushing where it calls out "steel bushings". What type of steel bushing should I look for? All of the old bushings, including the b...

Pins and Bushings for Henry Backhoe
Hi, my old Henry backhoe is in need of new pins and bushings, especially the main boom and the bucket. I've been able to locate 660 bushings for most of the points and I was thinking of using 954 aluminum bronze bushings for the boom since the Henry manual calls out for steel bushings on the boom. S...

Gil, I finally got this sorted out and the sprockets are now centered w/r to the rear rollers. I fabricated two 16 guage shims/disks to fit under the sprockets for each side which gave me about 1/8". I measured the dish from the sprocket faceplate to the centerline of the teeth on both the old and n...
