Re: 450B problem
Before starting, fill rad, then see if there is a coolant hose, plug, fitting near back top of cyl head, ( as high as posible) loosen
and see if air or coolant comes out ( bleeding the coolant system) , tighten, top up rad start and see if it make a difference.
Just a thought.

Crawler safety - near miss( or worse)
Spoke with a friend last nite, hadn’t heard from him for a bit( unusual) but he told me why- last week he was using his D8 to clear a small slide on his access road, as he got on the slide, the whole slide, road, bank all gave way and slid over the bank. Very steep country, he thinks he went down ab...

Lavoy, could you measure the thickness of a new engine clutch plate. The one I have I supposed to be next to new before I dismantled, but I would like to be sure. Tks

Re: I Am Afraid of the Answer
Maybe engine at one time was laying on its side for a period of time? If engine turns over with starter, I would try and start it. If it starts and exhaust cleans up after a few minutes, you are ok. If it clunks and bangs or pukes, as it’s trying to start, you found out why it was taken out of its o...

Re: 440ic Frozen Engine
I think I would remove oil pan drain plug ( gently) and see what comes out first-if it’s oil, today is your lucky day! If it’s water, it may be coming from exhaust pipe area and running into open valves, rings then pan. Then I would remove starter and try to bar engine over, if it rolls somewha...

Re: 1010 Crawler Foot Brake
Because the brakes and linkage are so hard to get at, I think I would get one’s from Lavoy, probably way stronger metal.

Re: I bought a 1010C dozer
I think if you are building an airplane, or a $50000.00 race car engine, I think you are on the right track with your differential gauge compression tester. If you are working on 50 yr old 1010 crawler( or similar) I believe if you got a good old regular compression tester, you might find out all yo...
