A couple of questions , before ordering parts.

Since I want to get the parts for the broken final drive on my 420 , I have been reading the service manual . I understand the procedure for all of the rebuild . What I have been wondering about is the tool (page 145-15-3 pn AM2774T in the service manual) for installing the seal and retainer on the ...

Heat the nut and then apply candle wax ,paraffin wax not bee's wax , has worked for me on other nuts , bolts and a few sleeves over the years .

One thing that should be included when you convert over to a 10-SI alternator from the generator is the spacer GM used from the factory . I have found over the years that the spacer helps stiffen the alternator , making it less likely to break the adjustment tab off the case . They are not to hard t...

The Alternator conversion I did for my IH Super-H , once the regulator is energized and has brought the battery up to full charge it sets at 3 amps until I shut the tractor down . I rebuilt one for a buddies tractor and it has been on the tractor for about 2 years and he uses his tractor to brush ho...

Throwing track

Randy , I moved my 420 about 100 feet to get it out of the way , and almost threw the track on the right side of it :( (broken final drive). Took about fifteen minutes to get it back over the idler . The first day I worked on the 420 after it was delivered I went and got a muffler for it . Your's so...

12V conversion for a winch

If you are wanting to use the winch extensively , I would suggest you upgrade the Alternator to a 100 amp one wire , as a stock alternator 35 -50 amp one won't run the winch as well and you can do the up grade in your own shop with a conversion kit available from Jegs for around $35 . http://www.jeg...

Lavoy , I had thought it was a little high on the price , will send you a list of what I need once I get it finished . I bought five feet of suction hose for a lot less than that . I figured the price on it would get a raise out of someone . JD440 , I agree with you on that  shinnery , I...

Parts missing from my 420

Well I finally got my manuals and started going through the parts manual to see what small parts that are missing . I have not found a lot of missing parts but the ones that are are definitely not cheap . So far what I have found missing are all the cowl and hood fasteners , the upper spring off the...

Davie , just use the right materials for the job . I do not know what your ROPS looks like or what it was originally built of . Cost and weight are an issue here , as your crawler probably does not make you money , but no one ever expects to be upside down in one of these . Build it with heavy (thic...

ROPS , One other thing about ROPS once they have been over once they are considered to be ruined , you have to scrap them and replace them with a new one . I stood a Cat D-7F on its back when a bank collapsed behind me and we had to remove the ROPS and cut it up for scrap and put a new one on it . T...
