Up and away with the seat tank assembly.
And then on the ground on wood blocks.
It was heavy but the old "M" didn't have any trouble with it.
Now on to the rusty parts.

I was kind of worried about getting those 9 big bolts out on the sprockets. No problem with a 3/4 breaker bar and a cheater. http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k598/bozo1236/100_1718.jpg Now I'm trying to get the seat/tank assembly ready to lift off. Wow all those hydraulic lines. Can't seem ...

Now doesn't that look sweet? I tried getting the link around the pin red hot but it still wouldn't budge. Now this is a headed pin mind you. How the heck did the PO get this pin so stuck in there? Unfortunately I had to burn through the head some to get it to release. http://i1117.photobucket.com/al...

That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid Ken. The tank outlet/pump inlet is a large pipe with a hose/clamp section right under the tank. No where to easily get a bucket under there. The other end at the pump inlet is in the nose piece. Can't get much of a bucket in there. It would just flow down the ...

tjdub I looked very carefully underneath the hydraulic box and I'm not seeing any drain plug anywhere. The reservoir is an integral part of that box isn't it? The hydraulic fluid level is below the sight glass at this time. Do you think it would be easy just to remove the glass and then pump or siph...

tjdub where are you looking. If you tried to post a picture it didn't work. I don't see a drain for #6 on either the service manual or jd parts site. Ok now your picture worked. Where did you get the picture? That part is #11 on the jd parts site. I will look under there for a drain. Sure wouldn't b...

Thanks tjdub I'll keep that in mind when I get the clutches done. Just another question. Does anyone know of a more elegant way to get the old hydraulic fluid out of the reservoir than just dumping it on the ground? When I remove the seat/tank assembly whatever fluid in the reservoir will just run o...

I see a really small pipe plug in the side of the block about half way down. It's sort of between the injection pump and the rear of the engine. Is that the plug you mean? There is another pipe plug in the thermostat housing. Is that the top connection? Well that's good. At least the left side of th...

Water temperature sensor on jd450B?
Anyone know where the water temperature sensor should be located on the 1970's JD450B engine. I have a newer turbo engine if that makes a difference. It looks like someone put an after market water temp gauge in this one. All I can find is the tube that is running from the gauge hanging loose. I don...

Well I got the right track tensioner to compress and shoot out grease. So I know my method is good. The left tensioner is still really tight. Although it will move with a loud bang if I really pump the grease gun hard. I think I will leave things alone until I get the tracks off and the clutches reb...

I agree on the tank heater to get a cold diesel going. I have seen some pictures posted showing a tank heater installed on a 350. Does anyone have pictures of their 450 crawler with tank heater installed? The service manual doesn't show anything and the jd parts site shows the heater and pipes but n...

I've been trying to break these tensioners loose. I don't want to ruin anything. I don't know if I should give these too much pressure with the grease gun. I blew out the hose on my other gun. I guess the hoses are only rated for 4500psi. I have a new gun with a metal tube. I just don't want to blow...
