Re: Straight 450 Brake Spring Question
Yep, that looks like what I would have expected and yes #6 is the spring that's broken on both sides. You're probably right about the hardware store springs. I've seen a lot of things on this dozer where someone has cut corners but while I've got it apart I'm going to try to put it back right since ...

Re: Straight 450 Brake Spring Question
My question is does anybody know if this would come from the factory with a spring connected to a shaft by a wire tied around it?

Re: Straight 450 Brake Spring Question
Here's a better view. This is a Straight 450 Dozer looking from the rear into the left side drive clutch housing.

Straight 450 Brake Spring Question
http://jdcrawlers.lcent.com:8000/johndeere/albums/userpics/10008/Broken_Spring_Right.JPG I'm in the process of rebuilding a straight 450 and when I took the covers off to check the brakes and drive clutches I saw a broken spring. I checked the other side and the spring was broken there too. I looke...

Re: 450 Frame Question
I'm sure something is missing here. I googled the part no. for the lower bolt and it's over a hundred dollars. It obviously is no ordinary bolt but I'm going to make a stepped washer to put back in there to fill that space.

Re: 450 Frame Question
I'm a machinist and I can make a washer like this. I was just wondering if there was something like this originally?

Re: 450 Frame Question
What is the bushing you're talking about? There was nothing in the 1-1/2 hole except the 1" bolt with about a 2" washer on the outside of the frame. It just seems that something should be in there so the load wouldn't all be on the top bolt.

450 Frame Question
I've pulled apart my 450 straight to fix a cracked frame rail. The bolts that attach it to the clutch housing are 1". the top hole in the frame is 1" but the bottom hole is 1-1/2". Should there be a 1-1/2 od x 1 id washer or bushing to take up that gap or is that normal? The frame was broken at the ...

Re: 450 Straight Throw Out Bearing
Got it off. After penetrating oil I used a piece of 2 x 2 square tubing to drive it back then pushed it forward with the clutch pedal, repeated a few times and it finally loosened up enough to slide it off. The bearing is frozen and won't move. Ordered a new one from John Deere. Man, they think a lo...

Re: 450 Straight Throw Out Bearing
I've moved the grease fitting from the top of the bell housing to the carrier and greased it but that didn't help. I sprayed it with penetrating oil yesterday. Maybe it will move today.

450 Straight Throw Out Bearing
http://jdcrawlers.lcent.com:8000/johndeere/albums/userpics/10008/thumb_Throwout_Bearing.JPG I've finally started in earnest to get this dozer going. It's a 450 straight (s/n TSF3M 0787351). Got the engine out Monday and found that rats or squirrels had been living in the bell housing. The grease tu...

Re: 450 Fuel wont Bleed after Fuel Filter replacement
It appears that the problem was a simple one. I pulled the dozer into my barn until I could check it out. The place where it died was a slight grade with the front uphill. After putting it in the barn I went to check it yesterday and the glass bowl on filter #1 was full. I started pumping the mechan...

Re: 450 Fuel wont Bleed after Fuel Filter replacement
I changed the filters because the engine lost power and died. The dozer had been sitting for several years but started right up and I have started several times with now problems but when I took these off there was definitely a lot of nasty stuff there. I suspect there is some trash somewhere causin...
