You might check for ice in the tranny or other drivetrain areas.
I have an old 8N ford and its sit out in a lean-to. It seems to build a lot of condensation and I have to drain some water out of the tranny every year before winter or it'll freeze up.
Just a thought.

You had one with no pinion depth etched also huh.
I have two of them that I can't find any depth etched.
What is the best way to set everything if there is nothing etched.

The late 60's had a different final drive case.
Also some of the 60's had the throttle in the center of the dash instead of top left corner.
There's a few other things but I'll let Lavoy or someone chime in.
Main thing that concerns me is your final drives, I need a pinion gear for a late 60 gas.

Wow thats kind of surprising.
Give this guy a try if you want. He's very reasonably priced. I bought a gear off of him for my tranny so he obviously has one torn completely apart.

No interest in fixing?

I know a guy that you could prob. get an input shaft from.
I have a spare but I would like to keep it just in case something ever happened

I'd give ya $500 maybe.
It'd be a long long drive for me, but my grandpa has a 1010 with a good diesel but a bad steering clutch and something is leaking with the tranny or reverser.

Thanks for the good info. I suppose mine could be a 59 or early 60 because the original finals on it are the lighter finals. So these late 60 finals I am going to use have a 56 tooth bull gear, meaning they were off a gasser. Since mine is a diesel will they be ok to use. My gearing will be a little...

Hey Lavoy,
I'm going to have to use these late 1960 Finals.
How different is the sprocket I will need. (Bolt pattern, amount of offset/dish, etc.)
Also, is the pressure plate different or anything else with the clutches.
Any info you can give me would be great.
Thanks

Yes there is a nice right up in the manual. Using those shims is a pain.
Hopefully you have better luck than me.
I tore my one final all apart last night to replace all bearings and the spline on the inside of the bull gear was almost completely gone. :?

440 Transmission ?

I'm finishing putting the tranny all back together on the 440. I notice in the parts manual it shows a seal (AL 2122 T) on the front quill of the input shaft. Then it shows a gasket (M 159 T) on the cover for the output/pinion shaft. But there is no type of gasket or seal shown for the cover of the ...

Nice looking project crawler there, esp. with the diesel. I'm curious though looking at the pictures of the back and steering housing. My 440 it seems the steering housings are left and right specific due to the brake rod hole. It kind of looks like you have two rights. Is there a rod going up to th...
