Re: Steering on a 350c

Good morning, 350C has wet steering clutches and brakes. The first step is to do a complete adjustment of both steering valves, clutches and the brakes; step by step as given in the manual. Possible adjustment issues need to be eliminated or ruled out before going deeper and doing it by the book is ...

Re: 450E Steering problem

To me this is a case where the manuals (at least the TM1330OP which details checks, tests, and adjustments) will be a benefit to you as several things may come into play before you are done. Here is the check on steering clutch engagement for lever steering. (Foot brake released, first gear, high ra...

Re: 450E Steering problem

Welcome to the Board. Have you checked the brake adjustment? Could that one be tighter than the left so more clutch pressure needs to build to over come it. They are self adjusting and can get over tight. Have you checked the steering valve to see if it has a problem? Pressure checks on both sides m...

Re: New owner 1950 crawler Ser#115748

Serial number 115748 appears to fall between 100001 and 119764 which were the beginning and ending serial numbers for the 1957 420C crawlers. So based on the number you posted, I would say you have a 1957 420C model. On the serial number tag, to the left of the serial number, the Model (Series) numb...

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

I believe the 4039, that went into the ag tractor I know of, used the rear plate and flywheel from the 4219 on the 4039 block so it used the original starter. Likewise I think some of the front covers of the 4219 had to be used as that engine came from a compressor or sprayer, so driveline had no cl...

Re: JD550G Hydraulic Steel tube fabricator or aftermarket

I am seeing AT157153 (in stock at the JD dealer I use for $215 each) as a cross tube for the blade lift hydraulics in the parts catalog for the 550G, not blade angling. The same cross tube in the blade angling drawing is AT157151 (sub for 116506) in stock at about $208 each. Can you take it out and ...

Re: Need a Steering Clutch

That's an easy one. Lavoy provides this site for us to use, so I will say contact Lavoy for your parts. He works on these crawlers so sells the same quality parts he uses. He has the experience and expertise to answer you questions and provide technical assistance if you have a problem. Send him an ...

Re: 350c 1976 starter issues

tnt.lee may see this and reply, but his last post was the one above where he says he tracked it down to the solenoid post. Some things to check. Load test the battery(s), clean both ends of the battery cables and where they connect. Does it try to crank the engine? Check voltage at the batteries, th...

Re: Steering Clutch not disengaging

I agree with LeonardL, if you haven't disassembled the steering clutch pack itself, you may find rust internally has stuck the discs together and to the splines they slide on. The discs need to be free to move. Free things up and carefully lube moving parts, but keep lube away from the clutches and ...

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

I believe it was primarily intended to be an aid during cold starting, to remove the load of turning the pump and cold oil during cranking in extreme cold weather. Once the engine was running and warmed up some, it would be shutdown and the drive to the pump engaged, then restarted to warmup the hyd...

Re: 450C only goes Forward

The HLR is hydraulic. There is linkage inside that works the valve. So linkage, or the valve itself, could have a problem. It could be related to the piece of metal you found. You say you have the manual for reference. Is it the technical manual, TM 1102? It should have info on linkage function, adj...

Glad it was that simple and no cost beyond the aggravation. That happens a lot with those filters as it looks like a gasket would fit there.

Re: Fuel Priming

I took a few minutes and located your first post where you said you have a 450B. Helps if you include that info; and posts for 350/450 and later machines should on the Late Models Board (looks like Lavoy moved this after I posted before). If 450B is right, the answer below may solve your problem, if...

You can read about the picture server for this site when you are logged in. Look at the bottom of the index page and you will see the "Messageboard Q&A and Announcements". There is info there about the server and using it. You need to contact Lavoy and set up a user name and password to put pictures...
