57pilot, Firts welcome aboard! If there is no movement at all in the steering lever I would conclude that the linkage is rusted together. Very likely the clutch is rusted also as it all shares the same compartment. Take the small rectangular cover(4"x5" approx) off the top of the clutch housing and ...

Dan, We deal with lye and potassium hydroxide in the production of biodeisel. Both NAOH and KOH are nasty chemicals. Get it in your eyes and it will eat your cornias off, inhale the dust or fumes and you burn your lungs. Don't be afraid of it, just respect it - wear proper goggles and a good mask. r...

Dan,
What are you going to do with the lye solution left in the tank when you are done? How long can you leave it in the tank before it eats the tank? I supose it would be good weed killer, I wonder what agent orange was made of???

Tuney,
That part of the Avitar(40,420,430,440 etc.) automaticly changes when you hit certain numbers of posts. So you go up in crawler number the more you post.

digger sr, This is what my diagram ended up looking like http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad336/celsesser/DSC00881.jpg it shows my mistake of taking the hot to the fuse from the neg side of the ammeter, switched it to the pos side and let there be power... P.S. that is the view of the back side of...

digger sr, Go to www.ytmag.com and search for "Recommendations for 12 volt conversions" by Genesee Products. That is what I used when I Gutted and rewired mine. The only problem I had was that I initially had the hot lead to the ignition switch on the wrong side of the ammeter(which doesn't work). O...

Tool definitions

Ran across this definition of tools that seems to be 100% accurate. Thought I would pass it along. Chuck DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, denting the fresh...

KRAKR, Just watching a couple of your youtube vids. Looks like a nice crawler. In case no one has told you using the reverser like you are doing as a clutch is a BIG no-no. Get the clutch fixed before you total the reverser. You are only supposed to move the reverser handle with the engine clutch re...

Kraker, The fuel supply and return lines go to the injector. It is a mechanical injector that runs off the middle rocker arm and is controlled by the fuel rack. When installing injector, do not tighte n injector clamp nut to more than 20-25 ft-lb torque as this may distort the injector an d cause wo...

They are the fuel tubes and should not be torqued to more than 12 - 15 ft lbs or you will damage the tube and it will leak

Zippy,
Go to John deere crawler FAQ's on the first messages page and look under 1010 production figures.
Gives you model # and serial numbers by year. 1961 -1965

Zippy, The reason 1010's and 2010's engine parts(and other parts) are more expensive is that they were transition models and were made only a short time. On the engine it is not 4 separate sleaves but 4 sleaves attached to a "sleave deck" or plate that is only produced( or probably just NOS) by Moth...

Stan,
I don't know if this is typical but my brakes have always seemed more agressive in reverse. I just figured it was due to the attachment geometry.
