440IC Air Cleaner

Hello, Can anyone tell me the length of the air cleaner tube that goes into the oil bath? My 440IC sucked some metal into the engine. Of course it did not run well after this. :( I took off the cylinder head and removed some small pieces of sheet metal that look like they came from the air cleaner. ...

420 Parts on a 440IC?

Hello, I have a 1958 440IC that I use around my property. I came across a gentleman who is building one good 420 out of two (~1952), and he will have lots of parts left over. Can I use some of the 420 parts on my 440IC? In particular, he has a spare engine, lower track rollers, and a rear-mounted wi...

Thanks for the suggestion. The cable reel trailer looks good as a logging arch. I'll have to keep an eye out for one.

What is a link latch? You lost me there. Thanks for the warning about the log kicking back.

Thank you gentlemen for all your suggestions. I am planning to cut the trees down to 12' sections, so I can have them milled to 10 ft x 2" x 6" studs for my shop walls. I'll make sure the branches are removed first before skidding. I have been looking for a logging arch, but I have found nothing sma...

Skidding with a JD440IC

Hi, I have a couple of acres partially treed with Douglas Fir. They range in diameter from 1.5 to 3 feet and they are about 150 feet high. I am having several falled but I need a way to skid them. I am pulling them to an area where I can bring in a portable mill or load them onto a truck - to take i...

Hi Bryce,

Unfortunately, the person on eBay with the roller shafts only ships in the U.S.. He doesn't ship to Canadians like myself.

JD 440I Track Roller Shells

Hello Lavoy,

I could use 2 roller shells for a JD 440I, if you have any left. The side flanges are broken off on two of mine. Its a battle just to keep the track on.

Please send me a P.M., if you have any spare shells. Please include pricing.

Thanks,

Derek (JD440)

I would first back off the band brake adjusting nut and then try moving the band - perhaps with a large screwdriver through the adjusting cover. If you cannot realign it that way, try rotating the drum.

Good luck,

Hello,

The steering clutch housing on my 440IC was repaired with a stainless steel weld. It hasn't given me any problem so far, and it does appear stronger and harder than brazing.

Lost PMs

Hi Lavoy,

I got you PM and replied last Tuesday. It seems that it did not got through to you. Oh well, these things happen.

You know the more I try to track parts down on the Internet, the more that I appreciate the service that you provide to us fellow crawler owners.

Thanks again,

Derek

Part Numbers for JD440IC Steering Clutch Parts

Hello, I need the part numbers for a couple of parts on my JD440IC. Does anyone have a parts manual available, and could you look up the part numbers? I need the part numbers for the ball inserts and throw-out bearing carrier. If you have a JD440IC service manual available, these are parts R (insert...

Lavoy,

I think I will take you up on a used insert.

Do you also have a used throw-out bearing carrier? Mine has some cracks in it, and I'm concerned about the bearing coming loose. If so, can you give me a cost for the insert and carrier?

Thanks,

Derek

Steering Clutch Throw-Out Bearing Carrier Ball Insert

Has anyone tried to make an insert? I made one up from a piece of 1" round stock steel and a 5/8" ball endmill using a lathe. The height of the new insert is the same height as the original, and the height of the new insert with ball in place is the same height as the original with ball in place. I'...
