As owner of a JD420-C with positive ground did someone change the polarity wiring for your tractor and was that done just to get an alternator set up vs gen? :?:

nuts!

Tried that Lavoy, it just spins the other nut off :roll: cuz they's both r/h thread, I did get it though after building an axle binder, or whatever someone would call it. What in Gods name are you doin up at 1:00 AM?

Removed Idler assy today, had to weld the jam nut to the setscrew to remove as it was broken down to where an allen, or alien for that matter would not work. Got that done, did some one say can 'o' worms? tore it all apart, oil seals were shot both idler brackets are ovaled at the shaft exits but th...

idler shaft removal

Man am I glad you all are here, I am having trouble removing the idler shaft because on one side the shaft nut came off nicely, oyher side no budge! any ideas other than drilling a hole in the shaft and useing a drift pin to hold it still?

Well Thanks for all the advice fellas, I finally got the dadburned thing out :roll: .Also learned a few new words, damaged some beer cans, burned up some acytlene/oxy and my hairs on one hand :oops: ,but it is out :!: read in my manual about rolling tractor so link is about 5"to 12" from ground that...

good morning all, I have located a master pin portable press as I can't seem to get it to move with sledge :x ? my pin pushes out from the tractors frame side of the track , is this correct or are my tracks on backwards?

My apologies all I been posting my questions on the basis my 420-c was a 1949, well thanks to Lavoy I have ascertained it is in reality a 1956 year made! That makes it my little brother! :oops: :lol:

I need to remove one of my tracks on a 1949 JD 420 C I've located the link pin but there is no clip on it and the end is slightly mushroomed so it will not drive back out of the link? Does this model have to be ground off? Or is just really close tolerances and have to be pressed out? any help would...
