As owner of a JD420-C with positive ground did someone change the polarity wiring for your tractor and was that done just to get an alternator set up vs gen?

Tried that Lavoy, it just spins the other nut off cuz they's both r/h thread, I did get it though after building an axle binder, or whatever someone would call it. What in Gods name are you doin up at 1:00 AM?

Removed Idler assy today, had to weld the jam nut to the setscrew to remove as it was broken down to where an allen, or alien for that matter would not work. Man am I glad you all are here, I am having trouble removing the idler shaft because on one side the shaft nut came off nicely, oyher side no budge! any ideas other than drilling a hole in the shaft and useing a drift pin to hold it still?

good morning all, I have located a master pin portable press as I can't seem to get it to move with sledge ? my pin pushes out from the tractors frame side of the track , is this correct or are my tracks on backwards?

My apologies all I been posting my questions on the basis my 420-c was a 1949, well thanks to Lavoy I have ascertained it is in reality a 1956 year made! That makes it my little brother!

Thanks for your input Lavoy, would you know of some kind of portable press?

Sorry, can't help but where did you find a parts book for yours, I have a 1949 420 and a service manual, that's, all a part book would be great.

I need to remove one of my tracks on a 1949 JD 420 C I've located the link pin but there is no clip on it and the end is slightly mushroomed so it will not drive back out of the link? Does this model have to be ground off? Or is just really close tolerances and have to be pressed out? any help would...
