Is the PTO shaft splined? If so, what size and how many splines? Are there two bearings in the pto shaft housing?

Hey Lavoy, those pictures look like ebay pictures--small and blury. Is there a link to the originals or bigger pictures?

My 420 won't start unless the choke is pulled. Once it starts, you have to immediately push the choke back in or it billows black smoke. With the slightest weak ignition, it would be easy to flood. I was thinking I had a problem with my 420 until I found out the shift pattern was not what I was expecting. It is NOT like an auto so you may want to be sure you've checked the shift pattern. Just a thought.

Are you talking about paint burning off the exhaust manifold?

The PTO. I need to add a pto output shaft to the back. Is there a casing that replaces the "cap" on the back of the final? Is there anything else I would need besides a casing with bearings and the output shaft?

I mentioned the 3pt parts because I don't want the whole shibang--Just the pto.

I think I can probably add a cylinder under the seat to handle the lift part and fabricate the link mounts. What would be needed for the drive. Just the housing and shaft?

Sounds like the water pump is cavitating or you don't have enough coolant. Maybe an air pocket in the block. It depends on what type of paint you used too. My 420 has been running around 175 on the temp gauge and that's when the outside temps have been 100+.
