JD M wheel tractor cultivator

Hi, Just a wild shot in the dark. I figure I will ask here before I go looking elsewhere. Anyone have a set of mid mount cultivators for the M wheel tractor? Which you do not want and would like to be rid of? I have a 1950 M and two sets of 2 row cultivators in the weeds from a 430t or a 430w. A few...

Hi, Yes. My 420c 'I' position (#1) is worn to the point it is intermittent. I installed a new toggle switch in the plate that covers the hole where the hour meter used to be. I ran new wires as well. Now the ILBD switch stays off unless I need lights. Too many miles on the contacts in that first pos...

Hi,

Never use a differential reverser in reverse with the trans in reverse. The load on the spyder gears is way too high under this condition. Even just moving the machine with no other load is too much load on them.

Hi,

I am also thinking brake bands. As was already said, follow the factory instructions closely.

Always keep in mind that the clutch discs must release *before* the brake engages. If not, the clutch eats the brake band while the brake band eats the clutch fiber discs......

Hi, Ok. The M means HLR and you describe one, so that fits. The T on the end means the Dubuque plant and should be there. So, you have a 1969 straight 450. The HLR is both the transmission and reverser. High range forward, Low range forward, and Reverse. The collar shift is a manual transmission wit...

Hi, The model and serial numbers make one long string. So, I am not making complete sense out of these. T tractor 5 JD450 F dozer 3 diesel 1 this should be C or M. Collar shift or HLR. 4 this should be the first digit of the serial number Maybe the M looks like a 1 and a 4? Is it an HLR machine? 090...

Hi,

Crawlers plow on land. You really wear the roller flanges in furrow. They made an offset plow for the crawlers for that reason.

Hi, I'm a first-time crawler owner with a 455g. The previous owner told me never to use 3rd & 4th because they wear out the U/C so much faster. Better to just use 2nd and be patient. Anyone feel there's a lot of truth to that? Hi, Reverse wears the u/c the fastest. It puts wear on every bushing in ...

Hi,

Yeah, but it feels like 334 MPH! I have driven formula cars at nearly 200 that offered a smoother ride! :P

I wander around in 3rd at medium RPM or 4th at low RPM and tell everyone that is why they are called crawlers! ;)

Hi, Yes, you need to find the constant load and fix it. If it the ignition circuit staying live, you might burn up the coil primary section of the winding. That would kill the spark for sure. The grounding of the condenser lug would not harm the condenser, but would keep it from sparking. I would ge...

Hi, I use 4th on the 420c to transport, but then it has a 5-speed gearbox. I think that 4th in a 4-speed is pretty much the same as 5th on a 5-speed (without heading into the shop and looking up the ratios in the book, that is). I know what you mean by shaking! Those gears were meant to transport wh...

Hi,

I can see one picture on the first Shutterfly page by following the hyperlink.

On that page, going into the album shows thumbnails which do not enlarge when I select them.

I finally figured out to 'select all' then run a slideshow from Shutterfly in a third window.

Hi,

Ah. It must have a PAT blade. I was confused there initially. I was thinking of the joystick power steering that was on some of the 440s, and I had never heard where that was ever on the 1010s. In fact, it didn't live long on the 440s....

Hi,

Yep. Chemistry slows down as the temperature drops. In this case, the chemistry that moves electrons around. And, at the same time as when everything stiffens up and requires *more* of those electrons to move.

Not a good situation, for sure.
