YES you can use heat I would go to home depot ect. and get a MAPP torch NOT PROPANE.... Stan 1010 and 2010 it is almost impossible to get to the batt lead on the starter I would check voltage at the series parallel switch on the cable that goes to the starter and if you dont have 24 there you wont have it at the starter IF you have 24 then move to the starter IF you dont then move towa...
