Problems separating a track on a 450 ()
Hi I'm separating the tracks on a 450() to do a clutch and brake replacement. There was one welded pin on either side of the dozer and I assumed those were the master pins. Ground the welds off, burned the pin out with oxy acetylene and pounded the remainder of the pin out. I noticed one had a dimpl...

Re: Track pin removal
I ended up burning a hole down the center of the pin about 1-1/2" deep. Both came out pretty easy after that. Much easier than trying to save the pin.

I can take some picture and measure up the geometry on my 450() if you think it will do you any good.
Send me a pm.

Have you contacted Drott? I don't even know if they are still in business. If you could find the right guy you might have some success.

Re: Track pin removal
30 tons? The manual recommends using a t-bar and a sledgehammer. That's like bringing a knife to a gunfight. The torch is beginning to sound like a good idea.
Lavoy, are replacement pins available?
Thanks
John

Re: Drott 4-in-1 hunting, bucket swap a JD 2010 to my 350C?
I have a 4-1 on a 450. It works well. Very versatile. Judging from the repairs I suspect they aren't nearly as durable as a blade. Mine has three major repairs with a lot of weld metal. It doesn't surprise me that you're having trouble finding one in good condition that will fit a 350. Survival rate...

Track pin removal
I'm doing a clutch and brake rebuild on a John Deer 450() bulldozer. I'm having a lot of trouble getting the master pins out. I built a c-press out of welded steel and a 3/4 inch threaded rod. The rod got a little sideways and bent when I went John Henry on it. Bent the c frame a little also. Heat, ...

Re: Track Pin Diameter
That settles it. Try the hole saw, use the grinder if needed, burn it out if everything else fails.

Re: Track Pin Diameter
I was hoping not to have to burn it out. The hole saw is first choice. The grinder second. Using any flame or electrode cutting is a very distant third option. It does not sound like a precision tool. At least not in my hands.
Thanks for the help

I just looked at an online parts manual and it was not mentioned. I do have a shop manual. I should have looked there. Thanks

Track Pin Diameter
Does anyone know what the track pin diameter is for a 450? The master is welded in and I will try removing the weld with a carbide tipped hole saw. I need to know the pin diameter to get the right hole saw.
Thanks

Re: Advice on 450c complete rebuild
After having done a couple of frame off auto rebuilds I will offer some very, very general advice. Find the best car (dozer) to start with and pay for it. No rust, no damage, COMPLETE, not modified, and reasonably well maintained. Start with good quality up front. It will more than pay for itself. M...

Re: Replacing Springs on Pressure Plate 450
jgibbs I will replacing 450 steering clutches next spring. How many hours have you spent getting them out? Also, are you going to replace both or just one? On mine, one side that seems ok, plenty of brake pad and no slipping, but with the issues of removing tanks and hydraulics, I am thinking of reb...

Need rebuild kit for the fuel lift pump on a 450()
Hey The AC fuel lift pump is leaking an my 1970's vintage 450 dozer. Does anyone know of supplier who sells rebuild kits? Lavoy does not carry them. I have had one offer to rebuild it but no sign of a kit. I would prefer to do it myself considering the extra effort, down time, extra cost and risk of...

Re: Weight of rear weight.
Using higher math it comes out to about 200lbs each. Total of about 1000 lbs. Just looking it I though it would be a lot more.
