Spooler,
I am all out of 420 manuals right now. I would like to get some reprints made, but nothing at this time.
Rough guess on the parts is a little over $200 depending on freight type.

You will need to look in the back of the transmission and see if the coupler is on the end of the high speed shaft.
I don't see the gear that goes on the shaft that drives the double idler gear pictured.

Seal kits or individual parts are available from Deere.
I think the other piece you are referring to is the cylinder protector, it is not necessary to have.

Jay,
Diesel crawlers never used the 13/56 combination, only the late gassers had it.
I am short on used gears, but always have new available.

Paul,
Actually it is the clutch pedal that is frozenon the shaft. Sometimes you can take the brake pedal off, and pound the shaft to the left and get it lubed up enough to work.

If it was done correctly there is not. They should have removed the rear clutch pack and drive hub, as well as the front idler bearing.

It is either coming from the pinion shaft seal on the final drive, or the seal around the ring gear carrier, only two places.

At one time you could get just the ball joint itself without buying the whole thing. Have you tried that? If all else fails, I have used ones. What is the part number you need?

Usually what happens is they rust in, and/or the dirt sticks them in. On the side of the casting that the track spring goes, there is a large hole. Make sure that you dig all of the dirt out of there. Then take a wire and dig as much out from aroung the shaft as you can. Take an air gun and blow aro...

The pin is not very big, I don't think I have one on hand, but it is about 3/16". The hole is larger than that, I can get the size. The factory pin is like a rivet, and you put a washer over the free end and head it somewhat. The pin is not supposed to be tight on the shaft, I suppose the theory is ...

I was able to get a repro manual a few years ago from Paccar, they are the ones that bought out Gearmatic. I don't know if they would do it anymore or not. I think their website was paccarwinch.com. I don't remember if I sent them an e-mail or called. They really don't know anything about the Gearma...

One of the problems with the MC and 40 is the thermosiphon cooling system has no thermostat, so the engine never warms up in the winter. Assuming that your head is not cracked, what you are seeing is condensation in the oil. Because the engine never warms up, the condensation is never "boiled" out. ...
