Re: Fan belt on a 450()

Which wasn't yours; the car or the stocking? I have a couple different sizes of the rolls of link belts and have made/used some link belts to get by. They do work but I got the regular belts back on as soon as I could. They were often hard to get the links right to end up tight enough for the adjust...

Re: Lubing Roller

Stan has a post in the FAQ section about 450 serial numbers and changes. According to that the engine will be turbocharged and it will have wet steering clutches if you have a C model. Some late B models apparently had wet clutches also but were not turbocharged. It is possible the undercarriage has...

Maybe the one on Craigslist (search Maine Craigslist, heavy equipment, Corinth 440): 440 crawler loader, 2-53 Detroit diesel $4500. - no photos currently, email contact, no phone number; maybe Jason has a number.

There are some Images of John Deere 3 cylinder (152 cid) blocks with the dowels in them on the web, those might help you with where they should be.

Re: Setting clutch on a JD450()

It is great that is specifically in your manual, it always pays to have the right one. I double checked and the 450B manual I have reads as using the 2" tab, so there apparently is a difference between models. So using the notch; you would be setting a lever height of 2.156" (plus or minus the allow...

Re: Setting clutch on a JD450()

Sorry I slipped and misplaced the decimal point. Dimension in manual is 2.000" +/- 0.030" for the finger height.

Re: Setting clutch on a JD450()

Hi John, No problem. If I stand (long legs down) the JD227 gauge I got from Lavoy a couple years back on a flat surface it is 2.000" from the surface to the center "tab". This gauge has the notch cut out on the left side of the center tab as shown in your photo, it does not have the angled cut on th...

The JD227 gauge is 2.000 +/- 0.03". from the end of the legs to the tab the fingers contact.

Re: Setting clutch on a JD450()

From the section covering adjusting the clutch levers with the JD227 gauge in a 450B manual: "Place the gauge over the pressure plate with the gauge legs resting on the flywheel and notched area over a clutch lever. Move the adjusting screw in or out to place clutch levers at the proper level (2.000...

Re: Aftermarket/Refurb Pressure Plate Finger Adjustment?

The site has a dedicated picture server you need to contact Lavoy to get set up with access. There is info about it in the Message board Q&A and Announcement section. In the FAQ section, one of the first posts has a copy of the service bulletin on how to adjust clutches. I believe you need a JD7 gau...

Re: jd440ic charging issues & hyd cyl issues

The pump must have been capable of more than 1080 psi or the main relief wouldn't be that much. As far as how much pressure a cam pump in excellent condition could develop before it blows the seals or splits the housing, I can't tell you. Here is what I found in my 420/430 service manual for the cam...

Re: jd440ic charging issues & hyd cyl issues

I believe you mentioned in an earlier post that the relief setting was supposed to be 1040 psi to 1080 psi at a fast idle, from your book. A good pump would do that much and more I expect. Lavoy or Stan have likely seen how much higher they can push and can answer that question better. Lavoy said it...

Re: jd440ic charging issues & hyd cyl issues

Definitely need to do something to reduce that, along with fixing the pump, not good for the system to be able to run at over double the design limit. If there is no cartridge available to go into your control valve; you may be able to get a stand alone adjustable relief valve, and plumb it into the...

Re: jd440ic charging issues & hyd cyl issues

Buying a new relief cartridge should eliminate the pressure question, I would think 1000 psi would do for your needs with out adding the adjustable relief they mention in the manual, just my opinion. It would be a long shot, but the right hydraulic shop might have a way to test your present relief v...

Re: jd440ic charging issues & hyd cyl issues

dtoots1, Below is a link to the Vickers mobile equipment valves manual I found using the numbers you found on your valve. This is the document that references the preset relief valves they use. It appears they are not field adjustable from this document. You can see if it matches what you have, from...
