I'd look at using a small 12V battery (ie. motorcycle) and trying to hide it in front of the dash. Power your light switch from it and use 12V LED lights.
Biggest issue is that you'd probably have to put a trickle charger on the 12V battery after using it since you wouldn't be charging that battery.

Is the 420 different than a 440. I thought the spring was to ensure the shifter stayed in neutral. My spring holds the shifter nicely in neutral to one side.

Like Lavoy said, the dash shift is the easiest one. I think the reverser cooler was only on early models as well.

Jaybird, the dozers and parts definitely don't seems to be as plentiful up here as in other parts of the country and canada. There's a guy on here "HowardYoder" that I got a lot of good parts from. He might have the springs you need. I used Lavoy for as much of the new parts as I could. I got some s...

I'm not sure how much is normal. I think mine is more or much more than normal and I drip about 1 drop every other second. I need new blower seals possibly, but for the 3-4 hours a year I run it, it's not worth the $500 to do it right now.

Glad you got it fixed. Yes it should have air all the time. In the manual there's actually a check to see if you are getting the right amount of pressure it off it.
Do you have any oil coming out if it. I have a "more than normal" amount that comes out of mine.

Well guys, I honestly am not 100% sure if it was dirt or carbon or what it was. I suspected dirt because I installed the intake elbow between the air cleaner and intake manifold. Not fully thinking, I didn't check to see if it was clean, probably because typically the things I work on don't sit for ...

I had a chance to check a few things out tonight. You guys can look at the pictures and video linked below. We've come to the conclusion that nothing is broken in the cam or crank and it is still correctly in time. We are fairly confident that the issue is, it sucked a significant amount of dirt int...

Since you aren't a fan of the reverser, if it isn't completely torn up I may be interested in buying it. I may even have a spare straight shaft that you would need, but I'm not 100% sure.

Good point nails. I have thought along those lines that a woodruff key or something may have broken and now it's out of time. Haven't had the time or desire to dig into recently. The old girl fights us every time we try to resurrect her.

Maybe that's why mine drifts down also then. My rod seals leak. One is pretty bad. I should take it off over winter. I hate the thought of hydro oil everywhere. I should've put quick connects on all the hoses like I initially wanted, then it'd be a breeze to take a cylinder/ the whole blade off.

I think for now, I'll just let them hang off there like those guys who hang a sack off their hitch. You may have a truck with balls, but I got a tractor with about a dozen clevises hanging off mine!  made my morning. That instrument cover/panel can be had on ebay, as well as some diesel ...

Seems like something is wore or bad in your spool, causing you to have to have it in the "sweet spot" so it will raise. I could be wrong though. I'm still trying to figure out why mine will raise the front end and hold it up, however when the blade is up in the air it can't hold itself up and will d...
