Here's the specs from Schaeffer Oil on 0 or 00 grease. For those that never heard of Schaeffer, they have outstanding products, are known as the oil company who truly perfected soluble moly in oils without separation. Oldest oil co. in the U.S. The 0 grease would be their #274,towards the bottom--I us...

By spraying in the ether injector line, you're probably not getting the juice into the cylinders as well as if you sprayed right into the cylinders after you remove the injectors.I swear by PB Blaster, great stuff, much better than WD-40.I would first remove the injectors, then try turning it over by ha...

Lavoy---I have run nothing but 350's and 450's in my excavating biz since 1974.Have had 4 of them over the years,so yes indeed I know all about operating a crawler as well as TLB's with a reverser. However,I have NEVER had any problems with mine and really don't know anyone who has, and I'm in some s...

You guys won't believe this but today I actually used up my last cartridge of official dirty yellow JD track and roller grease from my old 350B days--about 31 years ago.Funny weird thing, the unopened last 2 tubes were only half full--very strange--where did it go? Or did the loading mechanism malfun...

If I have to spend $750-$1K on parts,I think I'll do away with that reverser altogether. When you say a straight shaft,do you mean basically taking all the guts out of the reverser but leaving in the shaft? I really would like to keep it original, but with that cost plus the fact you guys are saying t...

Reverser debris

I finally got around to draining the reverser oil on my 440ICD.Had a gut feelig there would be debris and there was plenty.About 20 pieces about 1/4'' to 3/8'' or so,slightly rounded pieces of metal. Is that from my forward clutch? So it looks like I have to split the rig.Anyone have an idea how much ...

Because the grease has probably hardened enough that it won't bleed out the hole in the adjusting bolt.If you have a 6 way blade, simply keep the bolt backed out and use a board between the back of your blade and the front of the track to compress the adjusting cylinder some.Go easy--once I shot grea...

Lavoy--from the short time I've been on this site,I will assure you that you are not portrayed anything like Mikey or the other 2 characters from OCC.They are very close to me and are regarded locally as arrogant as hell, are above paying their bills, and simply build absolute garbage. At bike rallies,...

Manuals

Was just bidding on a pristine sales brochure for the 440ICD on Ebay, along with a diesel owner's manual---went for $61 and $51.

440 Reverser woes

Finally, with the help of the former owner,I was able to adjust my forward clutch in the reverser.Mirrors are a great thing.Anyway,5-6 turns in either direction still did not enable the tractor to go forward. You guys think I have to take her apart?

Yes Celsesser,I thought of doing that, but before I do or have to, I was hoping someone might be able to measure the lenghth of their dipstick with where their marks are.

Thanks Tractor 850,but that's not it,not why I'm asking such a very basic question. What I need to know is why are there 4 marks on my stick, the upper most one has a notched line across the stick which would normally be the correct level, but it seems awful high on the stick and putting the stick nex...

Reading the dipstick

I changed my engine oil today in my 440ICD,but stupidly I didn't notice the dipstick has 4 crimp marks with no low or full designations and I was using a 5 gallon can to pour so I couldn't tell when 9 qts. was in.The upper crimp would have the level of the oil app. to the top of the pan--is that rig...

I'm glad I saved about 4 cartridges of the official JD track and roller grease from my early 350B days for my ''new'' 440ICD loader.
